- Demonstrating a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in the care of surgical -oncology critically ill patients
- Role models and participates in the provision of care to complex families
- Ongoing development and maintenance of standards of nursing practice through creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff.
- Interprets and fosters the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing
- Collaborating on the establishment of goals and objectives for the population consistent with the provision of high quality patient and family centered care
- Participates in the programmatic development of the clinical area
- Playing a leadership role, leading quality activities and administrative duties including committee involvement
- Participating in policy and procedure development
- Playing a leadership role in the collaborative design, implementation and evaluation of information technologies in surgical oncology.
- Performing research activities and promoting evidence based clinical practice
- Delivering, coordinating and participating in education and professional development activities/programs; performing activities to further develop and strengthen the profession including the supervision of students
- Developing evaluation strategies related to the Surgical Oncology CNS role
- Performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required Job Requirements
- Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Completion (or in progress) a Master's Degree Program in Nursing required (Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with a Master's Degree in a related discipline may be considered).
- 5 - years recent experience in Surgical/Oncology Nursing
- Member of RNAO
- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Surgical Oncology, is an advanced practice nurse who functions in an expanded role within a collaborative practice model. Emphasis will be on working with Oncology patients and their families during their experience at Mount Sinai Hospital and within a multidisciplinary team framework to set patient related goals and a comprehensive plan of care.
