Critical Care, Research Assistant:


Primary Purpose:

The research assistant will support critical care clinical (medical) research in the Department of Critical Care in Regina, Saskatchewan.


The research assistant will work on projects related to transitions of care from the ICU, specifically direct discharge home, as well as clinical trials within the Department of Critical Care.

They will be expected to be involved in obtaining informed consent, enrolment, and randomization into trials, extracting clinical data of patients using the electronic database systems, conducting surveys and/or interviews.

The research assistant(s) will be expected to work independently to perform these responsibilities, meet on a regular basis with the research team, and update the research team with their findings.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:


  • Screening, consenting, enrolment, scheduling, and followup of participants
  • Conducting patient satisfaction research
  • Data collection and entry into Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) or equivalent data entry system
  • Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with patients, Saskatchewan Health Authority staff, peers, and immediate supervisor
  • Regularly update the Principal Investigator and research team of progress
  • Familiarity and compliance with core research ethics principles as guided by the Tri-Council Policy Statement on Research Ethics (TCPS2) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Familiarity and compliance with the Saskatchewan Health Information Protection Act (HIPA)
  • Complies with all safety and institutional policies of the University of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Health Authority

Education:


  • Undergraduate or entry to practice health sciences degree is required. (i.e., Bachelor of Sciences, Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy Advanced Diploma, etc. although equivalent experience may be considered). Advanced degrees (i.e., Master's and/or PhD) would be considered an asset.

Experience:


  • Previous experience either conducting biomedical research, clinical research, clinical or patient care, and/or patient chart reviews should be demonstrated
  • Familiarity with Sunrise Clinical Manager, REDCap and/or other health data systems will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (eg. TCPS2, Good Clinical Practice) is a strong asset

Skills:


  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrable examples are considered essential for this position
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrable examples are considered essential for success in this position.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is considered
    essential for this position.

Term 12 months with the possibility of extension

Shift:
There is flexibility to potentially negotiate for a 0.5 FTE position as well.


Full Time Equivalent (FTE):75


Salary:
The Salary range is $ per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Salary Band 4
