    Job Description

    Mission

    In a world where the energy transition is becoming increasingly important, the Engineer will be called upon to play an active role in clean energy projects related to hydroelectric facilities. Our switchgear and control team is looking for candidates to assist us with engineering projects of various multidisciplinary scope, such as the refurbishment of turbine-generator sets, electrical and mechanical auxiliary services and automation in Hydro-Québec power plants.

    This person will evolve in a multidisciplinary environment and will be able to develop his or her skills by collaborating with experienced professionals, and will be called upon to participate in internal and external training.

    You will have the opportunity to work in office or in a hybrid setting.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Testing & Commissioning

    • Design electrical power systems and their layouts for various hydroelectric power plant projects.
    • Participate in the development of electrical systems, including schematics and layout plans for switchgear such as medium-voltage cabinets, high-voltage switchgear, electrical distribution centers, etc.
    • Prepare project deliverables such as plan views, elevations, including detail drawings, miscellaneous layouts, schematics, etc.
    • Perform or validate calculations for equipment sizing, selection of power cable gauges, etc.

    Protection & Control (P&C)

    • Prepare Control and Protection engineering for the following systems and equipment:
    • Control, measurement, monitoring and protection system for the turbine-generator set;
    • Group instrumentation: analog instrumentation cabinet or digital systems;
    • Computerized power plant control network;
    • Interface with speed controller, pump unit and static excitation;
    • Remote control of discharge valves and water intakes;
    • Control of mechanical auxiliary systems (air, water, oil).
    • Participate in the development of electrical systems for Control and Protection, including single-wire, three-wire AC, protection and control diagrams, as well as drawings of wiring, device connections, assembly drawings, material lists and cable lists.
    • Participate in the design of DC power systems, including one-line diagrams, battery capacity calculations, and connection drawings for chargers, batteries, inverters, etc.
    • Participate in the preparation of specifications for equipment manufacturing and installation on site.

    Other responsibilities common to both areas:

    • Collaborate with senior engineers and technicians in the execution of technical tasks
    • Participate in project coordination meetings and design reviews
    • Coordinate work with other engineering disciplines involved in projects, such as structural, civil, auxiliary mechanical, heavy mechanical, building engineering and architecture.
    • Participate in site surveys
    • Possibility of providing site assistance and start-up services
    Qualifications
    • University Degree in electrical engineering
    • Current member or eligible to join the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
    • 0 to 5 years experience
    • Knowledge of electrical distribution, control and protection is an asset
    • Experience in electrical systems design is an asset;
    • Fluency in spoken and written French
    • Basic knowledge of English in a professional context is required for this position to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clients, partners, and cross-functional teams nationwide
    • Basic knowledge of the Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
    • Autonomous, resourceful and project-oriented
