Description

The E-Learning Support Technician's key responsibility is to structure and support a variety of current and emerging environments for online teaching and learning as part of the Learning Technology and Innovation Unit under the direction of the Manager, Learning Technology and Innovation.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates Student Learning Environments by utilizing document languages (XML/HTML, RSS, Wiki Markup or other formats) to format and structure course content using TRU design standards and templates.
  • Coordinates with Instructional Designers to determine appropriate presentation, environment, model and tools.
  • Compiles courses using established course platforms/presentations.
  • Completes peer review of formatted materials to ensure quality of student materials.
  • Liaises with staff and faculty and collaborates with peers by analyzing and determining solutions to technical, communication, and media needs in course development.
  • Maintains technical integrity of course materials within development and live delivery platforms, amends print materials, provides new master print files to Printshop and develops printondemand strategies.
  • Maintains TRU file management and version control standards across multiple servers and data repositories. Maintains and updates Open Learning databases with accurate information.
  • Advises and provides technical support to other stakeholders/sections.
  • Ensures security of sensitive course material to maintain integrity of courses. Maintains security of digital assets.
  • Tests and evaluates new learning technologies for presentation platforms against established criteria.
  • Identifies opportunities for workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and quality of department.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor degree in a related program such as Computing Science, Digital Arts and Design, or Educational Technology
  • EXPERIENCE:
  • Two years of directly related experience
  • SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences, and to recommend solutions to colleagues and stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to document workflow processes regularly and the ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks
  • Willingness to learn and instruct others on new techniques related to job tasks
  • Strong working knowledge of word processing for large documents, particularly using Microsoft Word
  • Familiarity with document languages such as XML, Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard and Moodle, and syndication tools
  • Familiarity with conversion processes between different document languages
  • Familiarity with PHP
