    Description

    This position is located in the central office of the Beaufort-Delta Education Council (BDEC) in Inuvik and reports to the LAN Administrator/Technical.

    The incumbent will service and maintain computer operation and equipment for all BDEC schools in addition to the central office in Inuvik. The technician will be required to work with teachers, principals, school secretaries and central office staff.

    The incumbent will assist in the acquisition of new hardware and software as well as ensuring proper documentation and submission of related financial reports as required.

    The incumbent will interact in person, by electronic mail and by telephone on a daily basis with Beaufort-Delta Education Council staff, other government departments and non-government agencies to assist staff with the functionality and operation of the various PC based hardware and software applications utilized by the central office and schools. A working knowledge of the council's telecommunications resources is necessary as it is an integral part of the communication system.

    Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

    Completion of a bachelor's degree in a Computer or Information Systems related field is the minimum educational requirement. The incumbent must have proven application experience and systems analyst skills. The incumbent should have at least two years of experience. Equivalencies will be considered.

    Experience supporting wireless network access and the associated protocols is an asset. Experience working in schools/school boards would be an asset.

    The responsibilities of this position require the incumbent to work independently with minimal supervision. The ability to support users of all levels of ability from novice to expert is essential.

    The incumbent should have the ability to conceptualize, plan and effectively implement a change initiative throughout the organization. They should also have the ability to listen, understand and respond effectively to other people, and to help or serve people to meet their needs.

    The incumbent must have a valid driver's license and have the ability to drive and travel by car and on small airplanes.
