Outside Plant Fiber Technician
Tridon Communications - Edmonton


Tridon Communications is currently seeking Outside Plant Fiber Technician to add to our growing Cabling Team in Edmonton, AB.

About the Job:


Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Read, interpret, and maintain drawings and specifications
  • Install OSP cable components. (Coax, Copper, Fiber Optic)
  • Installation and testing of communication circuits via available communications cabling network
  • Service, installation and repair of Coax, copper and Fiber Optic OSP infrastructure
  • Service, maintenance, and troubleshooting on commercial and/or industrial communication circuits and/or cabling networks
  • Repair, replace faulty components if necessary
  • Repair and adjust conduits, splice connections, fittings, and couplings.
  • Able to read and interpret telecommunication drawings and specifications
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned apprentices and new workers
  • Represent the company face to face with the customer directly requesting the work when needed
  • Good customer service skills
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Must Haves:


  • High School diploma, or a GED equivalent qualification from a certified college.
  • Postsecondary education is an asset. Diploma in a related field preferred.
  • A suitable combination of relevant education and experience will be considered
  • TE Connectivity certification training is an asset.
  • Vendor specific training is preferred, Belden, Commscope Systimax certification, Corning
  • Valid Class 5 Operator's License or equivalent
  • Clean Driver's Abstract (5years)
  • Ability to pass preaccess drug and alcohol testing on a regular and frequent basis for access to site
  • Be able to provide a criminal record check
  • Excellent understanding of networking requirements, telecommunication codes, wiring standards, and regulations applicable to the telecommunications industry
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools, test equipment and design/fabrication techniques
  • Knowledge of applicable telecommunication codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Electrical Wiring codes and best practices

Physical Demands
OSP Technician must be able to spend the majority of the day sitting, walking, and/or standing. They may be required to stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time. They also may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 50lbs for short distances.
