Leading the team to achieve production goals You ensure the department maintains a high production level and meets our safety and quality by driving continuous improvement using lean manufacturing tools.
Position Description:
Your top priority is to motivate shop employees and ensure production efficiency and quality.
- Recognize the contributions of each team member and encourage them to collaborate
- Showcase knowledge and skills to the shop employees by giving them clear direction on how to complete tasks
- Ensure that all shop employees wear proper PPE and clothing before working to safeguard against production hazards
- Participate in and drive
safe work conditions and
continuous improvement: - Drive continuous improvement to improve quality and productivity
- Lead and participate in
problem solving projects
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Be able to understand
blueprint drawings and identify how to assemble the unit with proper quality and safety precautions.
Have
strong leadership skills:
- the ability to adapt communication to the situation and the ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Lead
daily production planning meetings, track and communicate performance metrics and take counter measures on missed goals. Escalate problems that cannot be solved at team level. Collaborate with other leaders to solve problems using
lean manufacturing tools. - As the first point of contact for employees, you address concerns when they arise. Technical issues can be addressed by the Team Leaders. Issues regarding safety or quality and any employee concerns should be escalated to the Manufacturing Leader.
- Ensure shop employees are working diligently to
meet production goals by motivating, answering questions and providing support when needed. - Monitor the line to ensure employees are working effectively. Delegate and provide support to the line, when needed, to ensure the daily production goals are met.
- Determine the root cause of issues on the line and develop a plan to resolve issues and communicate to the team when applicable.
- Develop best practices that provide the most effective flow for the project to run. Incorporate input from the team to ensure the most valuable ideas are being utilized.
- Review performance on hour-by-hour boards, and audit safety, quality and visual workplace standards.
- Lead and participate in problem solving, root cause analyses, kaizen events and continuous improvement planning
- Participate in and drive our continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities for streamlining work and reducing cost and waste. Participate in and drive the kaizen (structured problem solving) process. Motivate employees to participate in improving their workplace both physically and financially.
- Describe the purpose of the work instruction and how to complete specific tasks in the most efficient and safest manner while achieving the highest quality.
- All employees follow
safety policies and procedures put in place to identify risks in the workplace. Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order. Establish an environment that encourages open communication to report safety events when observed. - Focus on the relationship between the worker, task, tools, and work environment to identify proactive measures to prevent job hazards.
- Other duties as assigned
Experience:
- 35 years experience in
supervising/leading a team is necessary - Previous work in another similar
manufacturing environment would be helpful
blueprints - read, interpret & understand:
- Problem solving and continuous improvement aptitude
- Experience in a
lean manufacturing environment: - **Computer skills
- MS office**:
- Understanding of line assembly processes
- Ability to help identify mislabeled parts
- Ability to use various
hand tools, pneumatic tools: - Experience in dealing with employee related issues, coaching employees,
progressive disciplinaries, attendance management, performance reviews and management: - Kronos knowledge will be an asset
- Curtain wall industry experience will be an asset
First Aid trained will be an asset
Education & Qualifications:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- The ability to speak, read and write English as well as basic math including measuring with rulers and protractors.
