The Teen Club Programs Coordinator at _Art With A Heart_ develops and delivers an inclusive summer camp focused on mindful expressive arts. This role leads planning, has oversight of program creation, manages participants, ensures safety and equality, and mentors staff to foster healthy youth development and well-being. Through effective leadership by the Coordinator of Teen Club Programs, the team will enable youth to develop skills (both technical art skills, and personal reflection), to form friendships, to practice social skills, to participate in mindfulness and mental wellness activities, to develop mastery in the arts, and to build self-esteem.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Create and deliver an inclusive teen summer camp experience with a focus on mindfulness, wellness, and expressive arts programming.
  • Coleading the planning of teen summer camp activities including writing curriculum and ensuring organizational priorities are met for the participants, their families, our facilitation team, and the charity.
  • Oversight of writing instructions and scripts for any online prerecorded and live sessions. Ensuring any writing created by the counsellors complies with AODA standards.
  • Close monitoring of camper conduct, and guiding the team in preparation of behavioural strategies for participants experiencing challenges. The Teen Camp Coordinator will attend to emergencies and additional needs including medical emergencies, calling and receiving calls from parents/guardians and providing oneonone support to campers as required.
  • Ensure activities are safe, inclusive and high quality.
  • Participate in camp activities alongside your team.
  • Prioritize youth wellbeing, safety and protection throughout the camp.
  • Organize and assist with setup and cleanup of programming leaving the space clean, materials cleaned and put away and ready to be used for other teams in the summer.
  • Coach and mentor facilitators and support team.
  • Lead preand postcamp meetings to work with the facilitation team on any situations of concern with regards to the wellbeing of participants. This includes escalating situations to the Recreation Programs Manager and ED if necessary to solve the concern. Make sure all appropriate reports are completed. Complete daily reports.
  • Maintain positive, constructive relationships with staff to meet participants needs and to provide effective conflict resolution should any situations occur.

Leadership Responsibilities:


  • Leadership role in facilitating 8 weeks (July and August 2024) of Expressive Arts Summer Camp.
  • Manage and supervise campers with responsibilities including program planning, material acquisition, delegation of material preparation, arranging material pickup and assisting with program oversight, administration and delivery.
  • Supervision of team, oversight, organization and encouragement of staff in preparation of curriculum and materials.

Administrative Responsibilities:


  • Keep detailed attendance records, contact with families or guardians about safe arrival and pickup of participants, absence acknowledgement and followup for participants and staff.


AWAH is an arts-based organization that frequently engages with vulnerable communities, including seniors, individuals with special needs, those focused on mental health and wellness, and residents of at-risk and low-income areas.

We collaborate with local community organizations that support these groups, aiming to develop a deeper understanding of working within the social services sector and enhancing our communication to create a "safe space" for these communities.

Access to Registered Psychotherapists, Expressive Arts Therapists, and other team members with backgrounds in social services will facilitate the adoption and learning of the language used by these groups throughout this placement.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1year(s) experience in leadership and program coordination
  • Minimum 1year(s) experience in leading expressive arts programming, camp programs or related experience
  • Post-Secondary education in Social Science, Education, Art or related programs.
  • Experience with Expressive art therapy programs.
  • Experienced with notforprofit organizations.
  • Previous experience with Art With A Heart Inc.
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment, responding with sensitivity and personal
