Our Team
The Technical Advisor Electrical Safety is part of our Central Engineering Team based in Sudbury.

The role is vital to ensure safe I am practices across Vale North Atlantic operations (Sudbury, Port Colborne, Thompson, Long Harbor and Voisy's Bay).


The Opportunity


We are currently seeking a
Technical Advisor Electrical Safety to join our Central Engineering team as part of Vale's North Atlantic Operations based in Sudbury.

This is a
permanent position.


The role is responsible for ensuring that the Canadian Electrical Safety Code (CESC) and Vale Electrical Safety Procedures (ESP), are adhered to for installations.


Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Audit and provide direction to North Atlantic sites to ensure electrical equipment is in proper order and properly maintained.
  • Provide direction to ensure accurate drawing management pertaining to single line distribution.
  • Assess and provide direction to ensure accurate Incident Energy and Arc flash identification of electrical equipment.
  • Ensure any deficiencies identified by Electrical Authority or MOL are completed.
  • Write, update and provide input to North Atlantic Electrical Safety Procedures.
  • Provide training and coaching to onsite electrical personnel.
  • Provide technical and legislative guidance of electrical equipment falling under M421 mining regulations, CESC, CSA-Z462, CSA463, IEEE Standards.
  • Investigate electrical equipment failures.
  • Examine and investigate electrical incidents resulting in arc flash blast and or shock injuries.
  • Provide technical assistance in trouble shooting, repair of complex electrical equipment, commissioning, design review and risk assessment.
  • Provides analysis and recommendations to the sites for unplanned outages related to tripped electrical power circuits or other upset conditions.
  • Reviews electrical incident reports for trends and opportunities.

About You

Education:


  • College diploma or Undergraduate Degree in Electrical with a preference for registration as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Electrical Certificate of Qualifications 309A or 442A.

Experience:


  • Minimum 11 years' experience in a similar role.

Skills:


  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Must be skilled in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Must have strong organization and time management skills.
  • The ability to influence without authority.
  • Takes initiative and is selfdirected to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.
  • Electrical maintenance experience and expertise in power distribution systems
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficiency in CESC, CSA-Z462, CSA-Z463, CSA M421
