Description
We are actively looking for a machining department lead hand. This position will manage our team of machinists and be accountable for coordinating the department's throughput.

This will include managing on-time delivery and team performance, overseeing team training and development, assisting with technical solutions, and increasing the productivity of the department.


This is a growth-oriented position and we are looking to improve and establish procedures, structure, and best-practices to allow for scaling our machine shop, while preserving the quality and speed we are known for.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Supervise, assist, guide, mentor, and develop a team of machinists and CNC programmers.
  • Review and ensure compliance with all documentation requirements including: timetracking, quality assurance, operation completion, and ISO 9001, among others.
  • Ensure compliance with existing Machine Shop standards including: standard tool lists and programming standards among others
  • Develop new and improve existing SOPs.
  • Manage Machine Shop machine tools and labour to ensure all inputs are received when required, and all parts are complete when due.
  • Create, review, and document detailed technical plans of complex machined parts, including material, tooling, and resource selection.
  • Provide design feedback to Engineering and Sales departments.
  • Purchase Machine Shop tooling and supplies, manage vending system, and communicate with suppliers.
  • Oversee maintenance of all Machine Shop equipment and arrange repairs when required.
  • Oversee and manage Machine Shop improvements to ensure continuous improvement and progress.
  • Support, execute, and expand upon management initiatives.
  • Champion the maintenance of a safe and clean department

Required Skills:


  • 10+ years of CNC machining experience. Supervisory experience a definite asset
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software. Modelling and CAM, longhand, and macro programming would all be beneficial.
  • Broad knowledge of CNC milling, milling tools and milling holders.
  • Working knowledge of CNC lathes, and manual machine tools.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, and Office.
  • Strong communication and soft skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and scheduling skills.
  • Adaptable in rapidlychanging environments.
  • Creative approach to problemsolving in both machining and management problems.

Work hours are Monday-Thursday 6:00 am - 4:30pm with some paid overtime at particularly busy times.
