    About the Position
    ADM offers opportunity for talented individuals who are ready to join the team and make a contribution to our business. Successful candidates will have 5 to 10 years of experience in canola or biodiesel processing or related food processing or solids processing (uranium, potash, etc.) industry. Preferred candidates would have a strong background of experience in a processing plant environment, experience in management of multiple employees, and/or experience in project or maintenance planning. B.S. degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Agriculture Engineering or equivalent would be an asset but not a requirement.     This position provides an opportunity for individuals to join our plant management team, starting in the biodiesel operations, with the possibility of moving from there to other plants that produce a wide range of products such as baking ingredients, pasta, gums, sweeteners, ethanol, vitamins, oils, etc.

    The Biodiesel Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all operations and aspects of the 350 million liter per year biodiesel facility, including budget, maintenance, quality and environmental control, shipping and receiving, day-to-day operations, and employee health and safety. Additionally, the Biodiesel Superintendent identifies processing setbacks and recommends improvements for optimum productivity. The Biodiesel Superintendent has a customer mindset to produce high quality products in accordance with applicable regulations.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Biodiesel Superintendents apply their previous production experience to monitor production processes and equipment, solve production problems, and provide input to process improvements
  • The successful candidate would track plant maintenance, monitor costs and expenses, ensure product quality standards are met, and work directly with staff on the plant floor
  • The Biodiesel Superintendent enforces all provincial and federal regulations in regards to plant operations and employee safety
  • Additionally, they could be called to assist with Plant Superintendent duties in the Canola crush plant and act as the Plant Superintendent in their absence
  • An ideal candidate for this position would be enthusiastic about driving change and improving operations at the facility
  • Biodiesel Superintendents must have an appreciation for keeping an eye on the "big picture" (present and future of the overall operation and company) while addressing individual issues
  • Biodiesel Superintendents have great leadership and communication skills, as they direct the goals of facility personnel under the direction of the Plant Superintendent and Plant Manager
  • The ideal candidate would work seamlessly with various work groups – such as the quality control lab, the sales and procurement team, and the engineering team – to foster a positive and efficient work environment
  • Biodiesel Superintendent would be key leader in Performance Excellence (PE) program for site

  • Speak fluent English
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with computers, specifically with Microsoft Office
  • Related Industry Knowledge
  • Must have good attention to detail troubleshooting skills
  • Proven experience with High-speed production
  • Education or Work Experience
  • cGMP/GMP+
  • HACCP/FSMA
  • BQ-9000
  • Various Federal and Alberta regulations (OH&S, WCB, etc.)
  • Applicable NFPA standards
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in canola or biodiesel processing or related food processing or solids processing (uranium, potash, etc.) industry
  • At least 1 year of management or supervisor experience
  • Additional Information
  • Work in accordance with local/provincial/federal legislation
  • Understands and is accountable for full compliance with safety and other EHS requirements
  • Permitting and safety requirements
  • The work is in a variety of plant settings in food processing plants
  • Biodiesel Superintendents must be capable of climbing ladders, working in tight spaces and entering confined spaces (including tanks and vessels)
  • Some lifting is required
  • All candidates must have authorization and the ability to maintain authorization to legally work in Canada.
