Newcomer Settlement Worker to join us on our mission of building a welcoming and inclusive environment through bringing diverse communities together and empowering newcomers to build a future in PEI.


We help all newly landed immigrants and newcomers to Canada through providing vital support in the areas of short-term settlement services, long-term inclusion and community integration programs in the province of Prince Edward Island.

How You'll Spend Your Time


As a Newcomer Settlement Worker, your primary area of focus will be providing settlement and integration supports to newcomer immigrants arriving in Canada.

You will collaborate with internal and external partners to provide support and education for clients in relation to their settlement, health & wellness, family, housing, and accessing relevant programming and support services with the goal of their successful integration in their local community.


  • Conducting holistic assessments of client strengths and needs, developing and implementing appropriate individualized settlement plans outlining a strategy to achieve settlement success based on identified needs, available services and community supports for newcomer immigrant families and individuals while identifying and overcoming potential barriers
  • Monitoring of settlement plans to ensure clients are on target, adjusting plans, if necessary, to meet individual client needs
  • Providing orientation services based on assessed client needs to ensure basic awareness of Canada, PEI, and the local community, including public systems and services such as housing, health, transportation, education, and rights and responsibilities
  • Referring clients to internal and external programs and services as determined through needs assessments performed
  • Providing supportive para counselling, referrals and information to empower clients to solve and cope with challenges arising from newcomer resettlement in Canada
  • Arranging access for clients and families to all relevant health care appointments, including organization of interpreter services and transportation arrangements both within and outside of Prince Edward Island
  • Liaising with community organizations to form partnerships for assisting newcomers with wellness and mental health related concerns o Providing navigation support and advocacy for individual clients or families who require assistance in accessing mental health and addiction service supports
  • Performing regular wellness checkins with clients in office, providing individual counselling support, referral and followup
  • Ensuring up to date case notes are completed on client files in a fulsome manner within IRSA's client management system
  • Evaluating service program delivery and provide regular reporting for funding partners
  • Participating in regularly scheduled internal meetings and professional development opportunities to understand individual, team and organizations role in providing programming, supports and services for newcomers
  • The typical work schedule is Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with availability required after hours and on weekends

What You'll Bring

  • You have a
    postsecondary degree or diploma in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology or related disciplines, coupled with at least one (1) year of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Proven ability to identify service gaps and manage case loads within a context of competing priorities
  • You are an effective communicator in the English language, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, confident in public speaking and presentation settings ability to communicate in languages other than English would be considered a
