The Economic Development Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the advancement of strategy-focused activities for the section and corporation and supports the coordination of the Economic Action Plan implementation.

The Economic Action Plan is a complex 10-year strategic plan to grow jobs and the economy, which includes planning, coordinating, delivery, monitoring and reporting on progress.

Specifically, the role involves maintaining a performance measurement framework methodology to track progress of the Action Plan, provide indicators of local economic conditions and supply qualitative information to tell the story behind the numbers.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, your duties will include:

  • Maintaining logic models for economic strategies and plans.
  • Maintaining a methodology for the Economic Action Plan performance measurement framework.
  • Performance measurement of action plans and economic development frameworks.
  • Research and identification of relevant economic metrics and indicators that support the City's priority of inclusive economic development.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to validate metrics and indicators.
  • Building a network of individuals who will inform or be informed by the economic metrics and indicators.
  • Supporting the overall implementation of the Economic Action Plan.
  • Preparing regular reports on section priorities for audiences including City Council, Executive Leadership Team and external stakeholders.
  • Incorporating equity and sustainability principles into work.
  • Engagement in a variety of complex and sometimes sensitive projects, using advanced levels of judgment, initiative, and creativity to complete the work.
  • Supporting the execution of new corporate initiatives by developing project documents and engaging relevant stakeholders.
  • Researching and writing reports, briefing materials and business cases on industry, economic and environmental issues, and emerging opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:


  • Degree in Business, Economics, Public Administration or International Studies with coursework and/or experience in municipal government, data analytics, diversity and inclusion (GBA+), and/or related degree program.
  • 4 or more years of experience in municipal or public administration, or a large corporation working directly with leadership on performance management methodology, creation, and strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated experience in both the public and private sector to understand complex economic development issues and the ability to identify metrics and indicators to measure these issues is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated skills in the areas of project management, change management, performance measurement, policy development, business case development, strategic and business planning and equitable economic development.
  • Knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal economic and environmental policies and strategies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong oral, writing and presentation skills to influence and inform leadership decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and serviceminded style.
