YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE
We are looking for a
QA Technician in 90 Gough Rd, Markham, ON L3R 5V5 CAN.


Your mission will be to:

  • Perform basic chemical and physical analyses, and sensory evaluation on food and nonfood samples.
  • Prepare sample for analysis and analyze according to procedures and methods.
  • Evaluate product quality based on organoleptic testing, packaging integrity, labeling and regulatory requirements, performance and client specifications.
  • Be prepared to communicate product issues or concerns with the department supervisor and/or client representative.
  • Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities

Included are:

  • Ability to add tests to set programming under the supervision of a QA Analyst II or higher.
  • Ability to modify sample information.
  • Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process. Perform necessary tasks related to quality control parameters for the function being performed.
  • Understand Zeta requirements and have general knowledge of type and frequency of data to be entered.
  • Familiarity with TQIM.
  • Exposure to Canadian, U.S. and International Regulations, Guidelines and Standards.
  • This position has the responsibilities and authority to identify departures from the management system or test procedures and document such observations in accordance with the prescribed nonconforming system and notifies the supervisor/manager.
  • Responsibility to support laboratory management in the implementation, maintenance and improvement of the management system.
  • Adhere to all safety policies. Job includes some heavy lifting, up to approximately 50 pounds, so practicing proper lifting techniques is imperative.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy workspace. Perform proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Be able/willing to answer phones and take messages.
  • When leaving, ensure that the lights are off, fridge and freezer doors are closed, inner doors to lab are closed and exterior exit doors are closed and locked.
  • Knowledge of receiving practices (samples and other).
  • Awareness of and adhering to good food safety practices.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

YOUR PROFILE

Experience:

This position requires a basic level of knowledge chemistry, microbiology and food science to perform analysis on sample.
A basic knowledge of computers is required to accurately enter testing data and results.
Analytical skills are necessary for completion of tasks within the department.
A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment.
Have a working knowledge of the internal IQA and TQM programs.
Planning skills are useful to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure analysis is completed within specified time.

Time management skills are helpful to maximize the progress of the analysis process and perform multiple tasks at the same time.


Work Environment:
The incumbent works in a laboratory environment with proper lighting and temperature control.

Safety equipment of gloves, laboratory coat, eyeglasses or other protective gear, may need to be worn depending on the testing process or equipment in use.

The incumbent may be exposed to toxic chemicals and chemical fumes that require the use of ventilation hoods to perform analysis.

Work hours can vary according to the sample load of that particular day and may include weekends.

The incumbent must be able to handle all food matrices or other product types as received, within appropriate safety guidelines and will may be required to taste a range of food products.

Visits to clients' facilities may be required including production facilities and the incumbent must adhere to all requirements outlined in their health and safety protocols.


Physical Requirements:
Lifting of up to 50 pounds may be necessary to transport test samples or chemicals / solvents. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position. The incumbent should be able to detect slight variation in shades of color.
