As an affiliate of the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the Louis Riel Institute (LRI) is responsible to the Métis people of Manitoba to provide programs, resources and services related to education and culture.

The Louis Riel Institute seeks to fill
two Full-time Summer Term Land-Based Program Assistant positions located in Winnipeg, MB.


Land-Based Program Assistant


The Land-Based Program Assistant will work as part of the Métis Languages team (ML) at the Louis Riel Institute (LRI), under the direction of the Land-Based Program Coordinator and Métis Languages Program Manager.

The Assistant will help develop and deliver programming for land-based Michif learning opportunities, including canoeing, camping, outdoor cooking, and other cultural activities.

The incumbent will be actively learning Michif, and using it, on the job.

Job Duties/Competencies:_

  • Assist in developing and delivering the program for landbased Michif Learning
  • Assist in obtaining program evaluations, survey dissemination and analyses as assigned
  • Assist in preparing supplies and equipment for events
  • Be prepared for physical work as part of workshops and camps including canoeing, hiking, carrying loads and packing for events
  • Assist with registering participants and providing information to them
  • Attend meetings and participate in training and events as required

Skills and Qualifications:_

  • Highschool diploma or post secondary student in related field (ie: Linguistics, Education, Indigenous Studies)
  • Speaker or learner of the Métis language(s)
  • Selfmotivated with the ability to meet deadlines while multitasking
  • Experience developing and delivering outdoor activities for both land and water
  • Comfortable working both collaboratively and independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical and problemsolving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills: both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of Métis culture, LRI programs and services is a definite asset
  • General knowledge of MMF programs, services, and governance
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle
LRI requires a satisfactory criminal record check prior to commencement of employment. LRI will accept existing criminal record checks if dated within 3 months of your start date. Obtaining this document is not a guarantee of employment.


Job Types:
Full-time, Seasonal

Contract length: 4 months


Salary:
$16.28-$25.00 per hour


Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
