Dragonfly Counselling & Support Centre is hiring a full-time
Supportive Wellness Provider (SWP) to join their Indigenous Mental Health project centred around assessing cultural healing needs and increasing accessibility to services. All work at the Dragonfly Counselling & Support Centre (DCSC) will reflect the Mission Statement and philosophical beliefs of the organization. DCSC is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that supports children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced sexual abuse or assault, and educates the public about sexual violence.

This is a hybrid position and requires travel to the DCSC service area.

The SWP position will focus on working with a Team to act as listeners and create relationships to the First Nations & Métis Settlement in their region, support, and resource current healing practices to further offer collaborative programming and support services.


Key Client Support Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual support for clients including intake, assessment, case planning and followup
  • Prepare needs and risk assessments
  • Assist with referrals to and accessing appropriate community resources
  • Support client towards selfefficacy and personal wellness by providing information on the impact of trauma, affirming their resilience and promoting thoughtful informed decisionmaking
  • Creation of trauma and healing educational programming with cultural lens
  • Provision of group counselling sessions as the program requires
  • Participate in providing education sessions, workshops, and information sessions and display booths to the local communities served
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with agencies and professionals in both the public and private sectors, in order to supplement and enhance client service provision
  • Assist in the provision of training volunteers, students and lay personas in the area of crisis intervention and group facilitation as directed by the Clinical Supervisor
  • Plan and prepare lessons for diverse learners on a variety of topics related to sexual violence and sexual violence prevention
  • Assist in designing, editing, revising and updating education department materials (i.e., brochures, manuals, etc.);
  • Creating culturally specific materials and service resource banks, ensuring that printed materials are culturally sensitive and safe
  • Advance and promote DCSC programs and services at agency and community events and meetings

Requirements:


  • Degree in SW, CYC, psychology or other human service work preferred, will consider diploma in SW, community service or equivalent
  • Familiar with the issue of sexual violence, Indigenous Culture, and with antioppressive approaches to violence prevention and client support
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, antioppression principles and practices
  • Experience in traumainformed and clientcentered counselling
  • Adaptable, organized, and selfdirected
  • Able to work and develop relationships with a wide range of people, both within and outside of the organization
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with other staff and organizations.
  • Comfortably presenting on topics including private parts, okay/not okay touches, consent, sexual abuse/assault, personal boundaries, healthy sexuality, healthy relationships
