Job Description:


Accountabilities:

  • Validating procedures to establish recorded evidence and provide a high degree of quality assurance; understand policies and validate processes and procedures, ensuring quality of clinical laboratory testing and specimen processing
  • Work with supervisors to develop, monitor and followup improvement plans if required
  • Implement tools to ensure sustained improvement is occurring, audits those tools to ensure sustained improvement and prepares reports all findings to the Laboratory leadership team and committees as required
  • Under the guidance of the Laboratory leadership team, prepares scorecards, reports and oversees departmental documentation in accordance with various regulatory agencies and monitors incident reports as well as facilitates all risk management issues including occurrence reporting, complaints and risk assessments
  • Maintain procedures to ensure appropriate and immediate response to and resolution of all issues and complaints: investigates and responds to complaints, errors, accidents or concerns as appropriate
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety within the clinical and anatomical laboratories including biological, chemical and waste stream management and ensures the laboratories are in compliance with regulatory, departmental and hospital standards
  • Review and maintain the QMS ensuring all new standards and regulatory requirements are updated and adhered to
  • Write accurate policies, performs QMS training, inservices and documents staff education as required
  • Demonstrate knowledge of clinical laboratory QMS
  • Represent Laboratory Program to ensure program activities are in alignment with Accreditation Canada standards and required organizational practices
  • Assume role of professional practice lead for the Laboratory, which responsibilities include:
  • Advancement of the profession through innovation and discovery in practice and education
  • Support activities of patientfocused care within the profession and ensure practice meets standards of care and the needs of the patient
  • Participate in organizational committees as required

Qualifications:


  • Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory technology program or equivalent education
  • Clinical Laboratory Quality Manager Graduate Certificate, or equivalent quality management systems education
  • ISO15189/ISO9001, Assessor Training and/or Internal Auditor training an asset
  • American Society for Quality certification an asset
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee member certification (acute care sector and/or laboratory sector) preferred
  • Risk management courses
  • Project management and LEAN courses
  • Minimum of six years relevant laboratory experience or has successfully completed relevant courses that together with experience are acceptable to the laboratory director and specimen collection centre licensing
  • Demonstrates understanding and experience of quality management methodologies, quality concepts, quality principles and continuous quality improvement practices
  • Experience in collecting, analyzing and interpreting data for the purposes of quality improvement
  • Data management and statistical experience; ability to plan, interpret, troubleshoot, problemsolve and provide recommendations
  • Knowledge and familiarity with regulatory and accrediting standards
  • Health and safety experience: workplace inspections, accident investigations and familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
  • Demonstrated commitment to practice advancement
  • Customer service and patient safety focused
  • Demonstrated project, risk and change management skills
