    Areas of Responsibility

    The Instrumentation Engineer Intern (Co-op) will be a key member of the R&D team at PNI. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the company's scientific, product development, and product support goals. While specific responsibilities will be tailored to the strengths of the successful candidate, they are expected to include the following:

    • Characterization of microfluidic devices and associated equipment.
    • Design of experiments and testing to support process development around lipid nanoparticle formation.
    • Application development for new microfluidic devices.
    • Design and fabrication of instruments for operating microfluidic devices – this includes controls software, electronics and mechanical systems.
    • Design and fabrication of engineering development and production alignment and test jigs.
    • Liaise with outside contractors and development partners.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Students with some or all of the following will be given preference:

    • Studying Nanotechnology Engineering, Engineering Physics, Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or any other multi-disciplinary degree.
    • Biological lab techniques.
    • A working knowledge of any major programming language.
    • Experience with the design and building of prototype instruments.
    • Experience with Solidworks or other 3D cad software is an asset.
