Job Overview


Reporting to the Senior Financial Analyst in the Finance Division the Financial Analyst provides professional support of financial operations, analysis, and reporting.

As a member of the Accounting and Reporting team, the position works with all division staff members on a regular basis.

In this key role, the position defines, reviews, and implements financial processes and procedures, and analyzes financial data, calculates costs, prepares reports, and forecasts financial projections.

The position supports the Manager or Senior Financial Analysts with presentations, recommendations, forecasts, and analyses.

The position resolves issues escalated by division staff, or refers complex issues and precedent setting issues to Senior Financial Analysts or Managers.

The position also provides financial advice and training to BCA staff.


The Accounting and Reporting team is accountable for all accounting functions including accounts payable, banking, investments, cash flow management, financial statement preparation, revenue management, taxation, accounts receivable, project accounting, general ledger management, divisional records management, and financial controls operation.

Key Accountabilities- Provides professional support to Senior Financial Analysts, Managers and Executive through the preparation of cost-benefit analysis and reports; ensures materials are accurate and supported by appropriate financial data and analyses.- Actions monthly/year-end accounting processes (e.g.

reconciles accounts, resolves variances, prepares working papers and participates in audits); responds to financial enquiries and provides detailed information and analyses.- Investigates outstanding amounts; compares figures and amounts to previous periods; prepares month-end accrual journal entries; corrects errors or omissions and advises senior financial staff of concerns.- Analyzes a variety of financial and management information and provides advice and recommendations to support Management, Executive, and Board decision-making (e.g.

pricing and costing decisions).- Identifies, assesses, applies, and maintains financial controls, including corporate financial standards to ensure compliance with financial management policies, procedures and practices.- Provides advice to BCA staff and managers on financial policies and procedures; and adapts financial and management information systems/reports in response to financial requirements.- Implements financial initiatives, identifies issues, takes and/or recommends corrective actions, resolves financial process and systems problems, and follows up with clients and others.

This position is included in the bargaining unit. BC Assessment intends to establish an eligibility list for this competition.
