Position Purpose:


As a key member of the program team, the Custodian works diligently to carry out their duties (including cleaning, maintenance, safety & security, and reporting & documentation) in order to create an environment that is conducive to providing quality care to those in need.

This contributes in a meaningful way to the ICCS mission to "Provide shelter and care to those in need, reflecting of the love of God in loving one another.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Cleans, washes and disinfects building areas such as walls, windows, ceilings, floor, carpets, air vents, furniture, mattresses, blinds and washrooms by methods such as dusting, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping, wet mopping, shampooing, waxing, buffing, using various manual and power cleaning equipment.
  • Collects and disposes of refuse and maintains clean refuse areas; performs spot cleanups as required.
  • Maintains and cleans parking lots and sidewalks using hand and powered brooms, rakes, shovels and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow and other refuse; performs minor gardening tasks such as mowing and trimming lawn, weeding, watering.
  • In coordination with the Facilities Manager and Program Manager, performs minor maintenance on buildings, grounds, furniture, electrical fixtures and plumbing; such as unplugging sinks and toilets, replacing tap washers, light bulbs.
  • Sets up furniture for functions and meetings. Maintains various logs, key registers and other records; assists in taking inventory; orders and maintains janitorial supplies.
  • Secures the building by arming alarms, locking doors and windows, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • Grade 10

Training and Experience

  • One (1) year recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Possesses some knowledge or has an interest in learning more regarding substance use disorders, mental health challenges, treatment, and recovery and is familiar with and understands the "Housing First" model and the importance of biopyschosocialspiritual support in addressing these challenges.
  • Follows and practices protocols and procedures consistently and faithfully and maintains effective routines;
  • Has a firm awareness of and maintains healthy boundaries and practices and demonstrates selfcare.
  • Is able to understand and contribute to the therapeutic culture of ICCS within their own position and team.
