An Arborist I is responsible for overseeing a team of arborists who perform a variety of arboricultural functions on all city-owned trees ensuring industry standard techniques and processes are adhered to . Their duties combine leadership, technical expertise, safety enforcement, and client communication.Duties include directing daily operations of the forestry operation crew on job sites Managing available resources such as staff and equipment Deciding on and arranging for equipment to be used on a job site Dealing with residents concerns complaints escalations educate public on proper forestry practices Ensuring monitoring that all job sites are safe staff are wearing PPE working safely relevant paperwork completed Dealing directly with workers complaints or directing staff other resources address health safety concerns Assigns tasks ensures efficient workflow Trains mentors crew members parks staff students Participate in recruitment process Ensure assigned vehicles equipment tools maintained operated safely ready use Maintains records work completed equipment used crew hours Coordinates office staff scheduling reporting Provide ad hoc assistance projects initiatives unitteam Must adhere Occupational Health Safety Act Regulations Construction Industrial Ministry Transportation Ontario Traffic Manual Book Highway Traffic Act Comply City policies Required participate call rotation throughout year including storm management afterhours service Skills And Qualifications Must ISA Certified Arborist willing obtain certification first months employment ISA Tree Worker certification asset Minimum years experience arboriculture field Minimum years experience leading crews Knowledge Arboriculture practices International Society standards Knowledge Health Safety Highway Traffic Valid Ontario class DZ license good standing Ability work great heights climbing operating sizesweights equipment Work energized apparatus following Electrical Utility Safety Rules High attention detail Working weather conditions Physically capable performing forestry related tasks Demonstrate effective communication skills oral written administration skills time management skills ability work team Show commitment personal growth development leadership Contributes positive culture IHSA line clearing Safety Awareness Certification asset Book traffic control training asset Working Heights asset TRAQ qualification asset
