- Provide governance and oversight of data under their stewardship, acting as a focal point for data governance within the Line of Business
- Identifies, measures and monitors current and emerging data related risks in day-to-day activities, operations, products and services within the Business, to ensure activities are within TD's Risk Appetite and policies.
- Design, implement, and maintain LOB-specific processes, templates, and appropriate mitigating controls, to support enterprise data policy and standards and ensure effective management and control of LOB data.
- Act as a strategic partner by leading relationships with key enterprise partners and with leadership team to clarify scope, align, influence and effectively manage data governance across HR.
- Communicates difficult concepts; converts information to compelling business context and advice; influences and gains alignment across increasingly senior stakeholders.
- Review and escalate data risks and issues and provide advice and support to business owners in development and implementation of action plans for issue resolution.
- Deliver training, tools, and advice to support the governance and oversight of data.
- Provide 1st line oversight, challenge and guidance to the Business on activities such as identification of critical data and critical data elements, metadata management and data quality tasks and data retention and disposition.
- Partner with business and control partners (including Technology, Legal, Privacy, Data Risk Management, LOB Governance & Controls, etc.) to drive effective data activities for the Business.
- Provide data governance expertise to support projects, ensuring projects meet required data governance and management policies and standards.
- Support "Data in Change" initiatives with data management needs, including reviewing the Data Impact Assessments (DIAs) and reporting and escalating as necessary per the DIA process.
- Lead the establishment and monitoring of ongoing operations of Data Issue Governance across their Business, including tracking of data issues and remediation within the DIG platform.
- Define and execute a process to provide oversight of the Data Inventory (within the Data Book of Record) and 1A processes for the Business Segment or Corporate Function, including:
- retention standards adherence (e.g., retention schedules, Information Holds)
- disposition standards adherence
- adequate retention and disposition capabilities to support the above processes
- Oversee documentation, implementation and attestation of disposition processes and procedures, annual risk assessment, and attest to data inventory quality/remediation plans.
- 5+ years relevant experience, with preference given to demonstrated proficiency in a 3 Lines of Defense (1B or 2A, 2B) role, or strong knowledge of HR's operations and processes relating to data
- Strong understanding of data governance principles and an understanding of data risk and data management
- Planning and organizational skills with a strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Experience with working in both a technical and business context is an asset; able to translate technical concepts into easy-to-understand business language
- A team player with the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team with a proven track record of delivering results by demonstrating the ability to take independent action
- A positive "can do" attitude with a curiosity and willingness to learn
- Comfortable navigating a space that is not well defined, ambiguous, and complex at times, and ability to stay resilient under pressure
- Proven background in using influencing skills and being comfortable with raising strategic ideas for change

Department Overview:
HR Governance and Controls team is responsible for providing risk advice and oversight so that our HR business areas have adequately considered, managed, and mitigated the risks in day-to-day activities, operations, services and are operating within risk appetite. You will provide practical recommendations and independent challenge and encourage transparent discussion of risk issues fostering an effective transparent risk culture. Contribute to enterprise governance, risk and building enterprise capabilities to streamline the three lines of defense and improve effectiveness.

As a Data Steward II, you will provide data governance expertise, business leadership, and lead on day-to-day data governance activities. Appointed as a Data Steward for Human Resources, you will provide first line of defence (1B) oversight and challenge over data risks within HR ensuring the Line of Business meets enterprise data policies and standards, and will also play a role in supporting the business' data strategy.
