Purpose of the Role


The Manager, Rankings and Awards provides strategic guidance and practical support to the Clients and Markets and BLG leadership teams with regards to nominations and the rankings and awards portfolio.

A collaborative relationship builder and executer, the Manager, Rankings and Submissions is responsible for creating eminence and visibility for the Firm in the marketplace by liaising with the Communications Team on associated market development activities, including the promotion related to the awards/rankings.


This position will further develop and implement national initiatives and programs that assist with the building and profile of the firm's practice groups, industry teams, and firm wide marketing and business development initiatives.

The incumbent work closely with the Director, Clients & Markets, and the entire Clients and Markets Team.

Primary Responsibilities

Marketing & Brand Awareness (25%)

  • Proactively survey of the rankings landscape on a regular basis for new opportunities and evaluate, negotiate and manage sponsorships and related opportunities.
  • Assess opportunities to determine whether awards or rankings will further lawyer/practice area and / or business development objectives.
  • Track and record the firm's directory rankings and other accolades and ensure the firm website is updated accordingly.
  • Maintain awards updates in the firm's rankings content management database system.
Planning, Implementation & New Business Acquisition (25%)

  • Demonstrate a deep knowledge of the various practice areas at the firm.
  • Use firm matters to compose/develop/create compelling and concise submissions to various rankings and awards bodies, including Chambers, Benchmark, Lexpert, Best Lawyers, GAR 100, GIR 100, Legal 500, among other prominent organizations.
  • Gather and actively manage and track the client references pertaining to the various submissions.
  • Together with the Key Client Teams, Clients and Markets Team and lawyers work to identify key clients and potential clients to submit for consideration for various awards.
Client Account & Relationship Management (20%)

  • In collaboration with relevant firm leadership and team leads, drive the implementation and execution of rankings and awards submissions strategies.
  • Develop strategies that are in line with the firm goal to grow revenue, retain clients, assist in gaining new clients and build and protect the Firm's brand and reputation.
  • Partner with Group Heads, NBLs, department heads and Client and Markets colleagues to identify specific matters, practices and lawyer accomplishments to include in the various submissions.
Operations and Program Delivery (20%)

  • Track and coordinate the creation and continuous updating of submission materials.
  • Assist Client and Markets teammates with updating and managing a comprehensive calendar of ranking publications, directories, surveys and awards due dates and requirements.
  • Manage the various pending submission deadlines and coordinate with lawyers and Clients and Markets teammates to meet them in a timely fashion.
  • Manage and track award and directory related budget.
Reporting and Data Analytics (10%)

  • Assist the Clients and Markets Team by providing relevant information for various firm wide reports.
  • Coordinate attendance and invitations for all submissions and awards tables/shows.
  • Provide administrative and research support for the submissions.
  • Other marketing and business development projects as assigned.
General Responsibilities

  • Ensure full and appropriate use of resources based on priority and availability to focus on highimpact results.
  • Provide proactive leadership and direction to Client & Market direct reports, effectively manage their performance, and develop skills and capabilities within your group that will ensure excellence in service to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Be an ambassador of continuous improvement and change, playing an active role in elevating the performance of the C&M team.
  • Support client and markets team as required.
Key Competencies

  • Undergraduate education in, Business Administration, Marketing, or a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive business development or marketing experience, preferably in a professional services environment.
  • Experience with creating and developing award and ranking submissions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix management environment.
  • Indepth understanding of legal and business environments.
