The Opportunity


The Infrastructure Department is comprised of five Branches, including three Design and Construction Branches, the Wastewater Operations Branch, and the Water Operations Branch.

Key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of the City's environmental infrastructure and systems including water supply, treatment, and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; and the design and construction of the City's infrastructure including treatment plants, pump stations, roads, sewers, watermains, sidewalks, stormwater management ponds, water towers and reservoirs, etc.


The Operator Class II - WwTF position performs process control duties and daily operational and maintenance activities in collaboration with the Supervisor of Wastewater Operations and Maintenance, Operations Lead Hand and/or Operator-in-Charge (OIC).

Specifically, this position monitors and controls sewage treatment processes and performance; conducts operational checks and inspections; documents process control activities, and performs basic operation of, and completes maintenance activities on a wide range of wastewater treatment and collection infrastructure and equipment.

Additionally, this position identifies process issues; and troubleshoots and adjusts processes in order to maintain the wastewater treatment and collection infrastructure and equipment.

This position is also responsible for taking instrument readings; collecting representative samples from various points in the sewage treatment and/or collection process; and performing standard wastewater process control tests.

In keeping with provincial regulations and Wastewater Operations Branch (WWOB) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), this position maintains personal, station and operator logs and records.

Lastly, this position acts at the Operator-in-Charge, on a scheduled rotational basis, and performs the statutory duties as prescribed under the Ontario Water Resources Act, O.

Reg. 129/04.

Overall, this position plays an integral role in ensuring the continuous and safe operation of wastewater facilities, processes and equipment in accordance with legislative and/or regulatory requirements, which will allow for continuous operation of the wastewater treatment plant, facilities, equipment and systems in keeping with community health needs and sound asset and risk management practices.


The City operates 17 remote Class III Wastewater Collection System (WWCS) facilities, in addition to a central 76MLD (megalitre/day) Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) Class IV Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF).

Each of the facilities are regulated by MOECC Certificates of Approval (CoA) and/or Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA) and Permits to Take Water (26 documents in total) with conditions that must be met.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Two (2) year College Diploma in Chemical Engineering Technician, Civil Engineering Technician, Electrical Engineering Technician, Environmental Engineering Technician, and/or Mechanical Engineering Technician
  • Valid Wastewater Treatment Class II Licence from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC)

Experience
