We are currently seeking
a Maintenance Superintendent to lead our Maintenance Team at our Goderich Plant in Goderich, Ontario

The Goderich Evaporation Plant is proud to be one of Goderich's first employers, tracing back to 1867.

Currently the site employs 90 people, producing an annual capacity of 140,000 tons of evaporated food grade, agricultural, pool and water-softening salt, and additionally packages 100,000 tons of rock salt, serving customers throughout the Ontario, Quebec and Northern-Central United States regions.

Goderich is named Canada's Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets.

Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1 hour from London & Stratford, Ontario and a 1 1⁄2 hour drive from Kitchener-Waterloo.


The
Maintenance Superintendent will be responsible for the maintenance of all Goderich Plant equipment in a safe, cost efficient, productive, and reliable fashion, in alignment to meeting both internal business and external customer quality and service expectations.


  • Directly oversee the maintenance department consisting of one (1) supervisor, indirectly oversee 1012 hourly unionized tradespersons, and contractors on site. The Supt. will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training; planning, assigning, and directing work; ensure work is completed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Oversee and administer an operating budget of $27M between maintenance and capital projects.
  • Meet and help establish targets on planned vs. unplanned work, mean time between failure on major equipment, work order backlog, preventive and predictive maintenance schedule completion.
  • Continuously improve the operation by identifying root causes to downtime and implementing action plans to reduce occurrences.
  • Continuously strive toward OEE improvements for all production areas.
  • Control costs through wise purchasing decisions as well as effective utilization of personnel.
  • Enforce and train personnel on production, quality and safety standards.
  • Develop supervisor to achieve goals set for the department.
  • Help train and implement autonomous maintenance activities with production personnel.
  • Leads the implementation of the Reliable Asset Management program (RAM).
  • Leads in the implementation of a reliability improvement program for critical and key assets. This includes identification of downtime and failure root causes and proposal and implementation of improvements to increase mean time between failure and increase uptime on the assets while lowering costs.
  • Assist in the identification plant operations efficiency initiatives and the planning and implementation of innovative solutions.
  • Analyzes costs and benefits of equipment maintenance, capital growth and improvements, and production unit maintenance shutdowns. Recommends strategies that minimize production interruptions and optimize production capacity. Prepares, maintains, and controls departmental expense and maintenanceofbusiness (MOB) capital budgets to meet company objectives.
Qualifications


You bring to the role:


  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or equivalent maintenance experience and/or a Bachelor degree in a related field.
  • Ten (10) years of overall manufacturing experience with direct work experience maintaining industrial equipment, conveyor & packaging systems, pumps, piping, hydraulic systems, and other miscellaneous equipment.
  • Must have 5 years of supervisory experience including maintenance planning preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Process plant experience and experience at a food grade plant are desirable.
  • Experience leading a significant culture change from reactive to a proactive / preventative maintenance and reliability culture.
  • Good knowledge of welding procedures & techniques and extensive experience with preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Experience with Reliable Asset Management (RAM) or similar maintenance process.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills related to dealing with in a multishift unionized environment
  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Access) is a requirement
  • Enthusiastic team player who is easily adaptable and able to work with individuals at a variety of levels within the organization
  • Excellent time management skills; the individual must be wellorganized and possess the ability to prioritize tasks and remain calm under stressful situations
