About the Role


Reporting to the Functional Human Resources Manager, SNDL is looking for a Recruitment Lead to join our fast-paced and friendly HR team at our corporate office in the west end of Edmonton, Alberta.

The Recruitment Lead will oversee a recruitment team completing full cycle recruitment for our retail stores, warehouses, and facilities.

In coordination with our Human Resource Business Partners and corporate leaders, the Recruitment Lead will be directly responsible for completing full cycle recruitment for our corporate offices.

The Recruitment Lead will be responsible for establishing and reporting on recruitment metrics, as well as developing and executing talent attraction and retention strategies to support business changes.

The business will look to the Recruitment Lead for direct support to fill our locations with top quality employees, allowing us to elevate the shopping experience for our valued customers.


Role and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership and development to our recruitment team. Ensuring the team is equipped with the right recruitment tools/ knowledge to stay motivated and engaged through direction, mentorship, and recognition.
  • Managing full cycle recruitment for a midsized, multiindustry, multiprovincial retailer and cannabis cultivator.
  • Ensuring the onboarding process is in place and updated as needed.
  • Creating and maintaining position descriptions and advertisements including regular upkeep on internal documents, the SNDL career website, and external job boards.
  • Being aware of all SNDL's corporate brands and retail partners and understanding the differences/nuances between the brands during each step of the recruitment process.
  • Reviewing resumes, coordinating and conducting prescreens, phone interviews, in person interviews, and reference checks.
  • Coordinating and communicating interview schedules, including interviews and new hire onboarding.
  • Processing background checks for new hires and ensure all required training is completed.
  • Collecting, managing, and analyzing recruiting and retention data, key metrics and trends to be able to evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of hiring strategies and processes.
  • Keeping current with industry trends to ensure use of the most efficient and effective recruiting strategies, advertising, and to identify need for improvement or change.
  • Utilizing previous experience and expertise to provide creative and innovative solutions to the variety of problems faced by SNDL and its retail partners.
  • Managing all vendors from a recruitment perspective. This would include exploring the different services of each vendor, negotiating contracts evaluating vendor performance, maintaining productive working relationships, and evaluating performance.
  • Assisting the HR Department with compensation analysis. This would include collecting data on free and paid wage analysis platforms, putting together a comprehensive report and providing recommendations passed on results.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience in the retail sector is a major asset, particularly in the liquor and/or cannabis industry
  • 5+ years' recruitment experience in a high volume, fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in Human Resources or Business is an asset
  • A CPHR or RPR designation would be an asset
  • Must have experience leading a team
  • Must be able to travel on an infrequent basis for store visits, hiring events, interviews and other situations as they arise
  • Working knowledge of applicant tracking and HRIS systems, and experience with Workday is an asset
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office and data systems
  • Successful track record of generating and developing a pipeline of top talent by using a variety of search methods
  • Have a solid understanding of all relevant employment legislation and laws related to the hiring process
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders
