Reporting to the Franchise Owner, the Retail Store Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the store - calmly and efficiently dealing with any circumstance or situation, while communicating concerns directly to senior management as required.


This is an emerging industry that is equal parts challenging and rewarding and this is an exciting opportunity for those looking to enter the cannabis industry at the management level.

The Retail Store Manager will be expected to adhere to all Sessions Cannabis policies and government regulations - while adapting quickly to any changes in accordance with law, policy or industry best practices.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The essential functional tasks and responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Full cycle talent management, to include recruiting, training, coaching and talent development for full-time, part-time and temporary team members in all units they manage
  • Identifying key talent to support the talent pipeline.
  • Ensuring effective performance management and maintaining a culture of accountability.
  • Developing crossfunctional teams of engaged associates with the ability to execute initiatives and drive operational standards and business results.
  • Providing staff training.
  • Managing other key leads and guiding them in directing and coaching their staff.
  • Developing and promoting a team environment and acts as a leader within the store to all staff levels.
  • Making decisions relating to the selection and deployment of staff to meet sales and labor budgets.
  • Preparing and implementing detailed operating plans for all store departments for standard operations, busy rush periods for each store.
  • Sharing plans with managers and team members and leads/drives them to execution.
  • Analyzing store financials and making determinations regarding how to positively impact future sales/expense opportunities. (KPI's, sales, gross margin, loyalty, employee engagement)
  • Planning and preparing for promotions.
  • Establishing, enhancing, and maintaining positive, responsive relationships with the community and employees
  • Developing a customercentric experience and engaging team members in the delivery/execution of that objective.
  • Providing highest levels of customer service within the store and in all interactions with stakeholders.
  • Managing the visual presentations to create an exciting shopping environment for customers in all their stores.
  • Organizing the effective use of all social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit etc. maintaining an honest business model and representing the goals and ideals of Sessions Cannabis
  • Communicate directly with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) and Health Canada as required.
  • Managing and coordinating store maintenance such as: phones, internet, utilities, repair etc.
  • Ensuring all backoffice functions, including the preparation of invoices, process of chargebacks and coordination of stock shipments are completed in accordance with company directives and/or policies and procedures for all their stores.
  • Any other duties assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 4 years of general management experience in a retail setting
  • Valid Cannsell Cannabis Retail Certification
  • Ability to obtain a Cannabis Retail Manager License by communicating directly with the AGCO and providing personal information
  • Knowledge of cannabis and cannabis products is an asset
  • Knowledge surrounding the Cannabis Act along with cannabis retail laws and regulations
  • Advanced understanding of inventory management
  • Satisfactory Police background check by municipal and provincial authorities
  • Moderate to advanced computing skills including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as required
  • Human Resources related experience is an asset
  • Access to reliable transportation as some travel may be required
  • Must be 19 years of age or older
Working Conditions
