We are looking for a
Manager to work with our
Laboratory Department to help us continue in our mission to serve our community with Kindness, Passion, Courage, and Teamwork.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Reporting to the Director of Clinical Support Services Programs, the Laboratory Manager will be responsible for:
  • Directing and coordinating technical, quality, legislative and administrative activities of the laboratory to meet the needs of patients, stakeholders and personnel responsible for patient care.
  • Ensuring quality service in timely and costeffective manner.
  • Assuming responsibility for general management of the laboratory including strategic planning, quality management, financial management, human resource management, compliance with all accreditation and regulatory bodies, the medical community and professional associations.
  • Communicating with external government, accreditation and regulatory bodies, the medical community and professional associations.
  • Holding active membership in relevant scientific, technical and administrative associations.
  • The Laboratory Services Manager is responsible for fostering the collaborative working relationships necessary amongst staff, hospital departments, customers and Laboratory Medical Director to achieve and maintain an Exceptional Experience Every Time.
  • Administering of all scientific, medical and technological functions.
  • Selecting, establishing and supervising of appropriate testing procedures.
  • Preparing and maintaining an uptodate Procedure Manual in each class of tests for which the Laboratory is licensed.
  • Establishing and supervising of Quality Control practices.
  • Appointing, supervising, training and performance management of the technological and professional staff of the Laboratory.
  • Supervising the Laboratory Quality Management System.
  • Provisioning of continuing education for the laboratory staff.
  • Assigning duties to personnel in terms of their qualifications, responsibilities and job description.
  • Selecting methodologies and instrumentation which will yield optimal information for use in clinical care of patient, meeting customer requirements and maintaining cost effectiveness.
  • Developing and implementing strategies, goals and objectives to support the corporate mission in conjunction with the Laboratory Medical Director.
  • Assisting Administration in planning and development of Laboratory facilities.
  • Providing leadership and direction for all laboratory services operation including planning and implementing any changes necessary to reorganize operational management of department.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to ensure compliance with all relevant international, federal, provincial and professional standards, regulatory and accreditation requirements and applicable laws.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to provide customer focused / client response services for all stakeholders.
  • Monitoring departmental quality, safety and risk management activities.
  • Understanding and performing duties in accordance with the policies, processes and procedures of the Quality Management System (IQMH Accreditation Requirements).
  • Providing communication and guidance to staff.
  • Monitors actual expenses to budget and explains any variances.
  • Participates in patient safety initiatives and takes action to address unsafe conditions and procedures to ensure a healthy and safe environment.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by Laboratory Medical Director and the Director Clinical Support Services

Education:


  • Graduate of the Canadian Hospital Association's Administrative Course in Departmental Management or has the equivalent in relevant education and administrative experience.
  • Advanced Registered Technologist (A.R.T.) Certification and/or BSc, MLS and/or equivalent required.
  • Member of College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (C.M.L.T.O.) required.

Experience:


  • Minimum of five (5) years Clinical Laboratory experience and two (2) years supervisory experience required (including years as a Senior).
