Supported Child Care

SUPPORT WORKER - Job Description

Must live local to Enderby/Okanagan Valley or Shuswap

Reporting to:
Executive Director, Licensing Manager and Board of Directors


Administrative:

  • Implements the policies and guidelines of the Aboriginal Supported Child Care Program.
  • Ensures Program files are up to date for each client and for the Program.
  • Prepares monthly reports.
  • Collaborate with community service providers where possible.
  • Is familiar with current research and new developments in the field of Early Childhood Education.
  • Seeks professional development opportunities as appropriate.
  • Knowledgeable of pertinent professional Codes of Ethics.
  • Participates in planning activities for the client(s).

SCD Supports:

  • Support children with extra support needs.
  • Work as a team member to plan and implement strategies and activities for inclusion for the child and family.
  • Work as a team member to provide culturally appropriate activities for the child and family.
  • Encourage and model social interaction with the child and peers.
  • Participate in ongoing evaluation, planning and goalsetting for the client(s).
  • Complete observations and informal assessments as designated in the child's individual service plan.
  • Fulfill program objectives, ensure effective case planning and management. Ensure accountability to the program.
  • Plan developmentally appropriate home visits and family centred activities for each client.
  • Evaluates child's development and growth on a regular basis and documents the child's development.
  • Provide parents with relevant parent supports and information as required.
  • Plans for and arranges daily, weekly, and monthly schedule.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of individual service plans for children and families that reflect the choices and priorities identified by the families.
  • Strengthen and support families in their role as decisionmakers on behalf of their children and themselves.
  • Support programming to be inclusive in philosophies, practices, policies and procedures.
  • Participate in team meetings with families and Staff and other service providers.
  • Support and facilitate transitions for children and families.
  • Ensures that the programs are implemented in accordance with appropriate guidelines and procedures.

General Program Responsibilities & Conduct:

  • Maintains a high standard of professional ethics in relationships with children, parents, community members, fellow staff members, Executive Director
  • Work as a team player in fulfilling duties.
  • Participate in ongoing inservice training and professional development.
  • Attend meetings called by the Executive Director.
  • Adhere to policies, code of conduct and other guidelines of Splatsin.

SUPPORT WORKER QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:


  • ECE/ECD/CYC/ECEA Certification or Training.
  • Minimum of 1 years experience in working in the ECD field, preferable experience in working in Aboriginal communities.
  • Must be a mature individual who demonstrates assertiveness, effective interpersonal communication skills as a team player.
  • Must be able to work well with children with challenges and identify effective strategies for case planning.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to provide direct program delivery experience and demonstrate working knowledge of family centred practice, early intervention child development, and communitybased programming.
  • Must be able to work independently, be reliable and selfmotivated.
  • Must have ability to keep ongoing and accurate records and provide written monthly reports.
  • Must be able to work in an array of environments (in the home, in community settings) and must have the physical abilities to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Must maintain professional standards and maintain confidentiality.
  • Possess reliable transportation and hold valid B.C. driver's license and clean driving record (Recent driver's abstract to be submitted).
  • Must comply with the Criminal Records Review Act.
  • Must have First Aide.
  • Ability to work with Aboriginal families and have knowledge of local culture.
  • Knowledge of the Splatsin Language an asset.

Salary:
$20.00-$25.55 per hour
