    Overall Accountability

    The Education Assistant works in the classroom assisting students with diverse learning needs. This includes those who have academic, social, emotional and communication needs (mild – severe) and/or reflect an Educational Support I (ES-I) learning profile. The Noon Hour Assistant provides general assistance, direction and supervision to students.

    Specific Accountabilities

    • Assists students individually and in small groups
    • Assists students' self-care (dressing, toileting, etc.)
    • Assists with assessment and data tracking
    • Provides general supervision of students during out of class time
    • Assists in planning and supervising field trips
    • Photocopying, typing, computer data entry, phoning, bulletin boards, preparing charts, and teaching materials
    • Contributes to class planning activities, behavior and progress reviews
    • Assists with the implementation of Learner Support and other response plans
    • Assists students during school celebrations, liturgical events, services and attendance at Mass at local parishes
    • Supervises students in the lunchroom, hallways and playground
    • Oversees students operating the school store
    • Assists in the classroom, office or library as required

    Qualifications

    • Category 2 – High School Diploma
    • Category 3 – High School Diploma and the equivalent of minimum one year post-secondary course study
    • May require any of the following depending upon assignment:
      • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certificates
      • Behaviour management training
      • Lifting techniques
      • Rehabilitation experience
      • Restrictive intervention practices
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
