VISA-2002:History of Modern Art**- (_Spring/Summer 2024_ Semester: _5/14/2024_ - _6/21/2024_; _Tuesday_ and _Thursday_: _6:30 PM - 9:30 PM_; _In-Person_)_

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This lecture course surveys major European and North American artistic styles and artists from the 1860s to the 1970s.

Following a study of stylistic concepts such as Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, German Expressionism, and Cubism, the course considers Dada and Surrealism, Suprematism, and De Stijl.

We then examine 20th-century North American art, especially works by African-American artists, before proceeding to Abstract Expressionism.

We conclude with a discussion of Pop Art, Conceptual Art, Minimalism, Performance Art, Land Art, post-1945 European art, and the impact of non-Western art on Western art.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meet regularly with the faculty and students on grading, course content and other matters as needed; assist in the evaluation of student work, using criteria established by the supervising faculty; work with faculty and other academic staff in support of the University's educational goals and objectives; participate in the provision of a safe and secure environment for all members of the University community and its facilities.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Teaching Assistants are hired annually on a per-course basis with fixed-term annual contracts renewable to a maximum of 3 years.

Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada for any employer (with a valid work or study permit, SIN and Canadian bank account).
One cannot hold both a Teaching Assistant and Faculty Appointment within the same semester.

HOURS OF WORK:

Hours per week are based on enrollment.

COMPENSATION:

$33.78 per hour, 6% in lieu of benefits, and vacation pay, as applicable, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act.
