We're on the hunt for an Inventory Buyer

  • Planner to join our Geointelligence Engineering Team at our Richmond offices.


This is a new position that is evolving and will expose you to many areas of the business operations of MDA GEO division.

MDA GEO operates concurrently in a light Manufacturing, Resale and Post-delivery Services & Technical Consulting environment across many sites in Canada under MDA Systems Ltd.


Key activities at first will be working with internal departments to create part numbers and inventory attributes for entry into LN ERP.

Full implementation of the ERP planned for later this year will include the formation of a Planner role in the position.

In addition to Inventory and Planning, the expectation for the position will be the issuance and administration of Purchase Orders to Vendors, assistance in sourcing products and services as per specifications provided.


In addition to procuring tangible products and services, an understanding of the management of software licensing, software support and hardware support services for assigned projects will be required.


The incumbent will also oversee the management of deliverables by delivering on time, on cost, and on quality, in line with the requestor's requirements, corporate fiscal policies, security directives, and supply chain best practices.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop costing estimates in conjunction with potential projects, for bid purposes.
  • Work with internal groups to setup Inventory Part numbers
  • Manage Part numbers in LN ERP
  • Assist in setting up Production Plan with Internal Stakeholders
  • According to procurement strategies & project constraints, contribute to the supplier selection/negotiation process.
  • Interpret and make stakeholders aware of the implications of software End User Licensing Agreements and possible flowdown requirements.
  • Acquires materials and services including; sourcing and soliciting bids, creating purchase orders and awarding contracts, expediting orders, and resolving related problems.
  • Participates with the purchasing team in the development and implementation of procurement strategies to improve supplier service levels and optimize costs.
  • Enters orders in the purchasing system, reviews, approves purchase documents, and then expedites orders, including tracing of shipments in transit and working with AP to facilitate payment processing.
  • Continuous Improvement Advocacy and Management. Continuously align, improve and modernize procurement practices to improve business performance and customer satisfaction. Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education, including either a business management certificate from a recognized institute of technology or a university degree.
  • Enrolment in the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) or an equivalent certification program is an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in complex procurement environments. Including understanding of a Digital Supply Chain.
  • Experience with Canadian government contracts would be advantageous as well as familiarity with export regulations and general freight terms.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills are essential to this position.
  • Able to work autonomously and as a member of a high performing team.
  • Ability to collaborate broadly with peers and stakeholders, internally within MDA (Planning, Engineering, Quality, Projects, Finance, etc.) and with Suppliers and service providers.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)/ Material Resource Planning (MRP) systems as well as MS Office proficiency.
  • Understand the usage of PLM within ERP environment
  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service and time management is essential. Must be computer literate; possess time management, interpersonal skills and an understanding of supply chain responsibilities and consequences.
  • A proven negotiator with problem solving skills and analytical ability.
