The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a
Manager, Environment to join our
HSE & Risk team in
Toronto . This is a
permanent position.

Main objective of this role is to provide leadership to the Vale Base Metals business in the definition, development, and improvement of risk

- based environmental performance

Provide strategic direction, leadership, and guidance to Base Metals Environment teams to ensure continuous improvement of environmental risk management systems and processes, and benchmarking of industry best practices to improve environmental performance in the short and long term in Operations and Projects
Engage and influence senior leadership and executive teams across Vale Base Metals towards the topdown recognition and leadership of environmental risks and controls across all operations and activities.
Lead the identification, assessment and recommendation of cost effective, safe, and sustainable environmental technologies, systems and operational excellence principles & practices

Additionally, in this position you will

Lead the Vale Base Metals business in the definition, development, and improvement of global environmental standards, systems and performance.
Provide leadership and strategic guidance to leaders in the operations to:
ensure consistent and effective execution of Vale's environmental management systems, policies and programs.

- ensure development and monitoring of execution of environmental improvement plans.
- ensure that investigations of significant incidents provide clear root cause analysis and mitigation identification to limit recurrence.
- improve the implementation (use and effectiveness) of Vale's incident management system (SAP-IM/IRIS), permit compliance system (SAP-EC), environmental management system (ISO14001) and other tools designed to facilitate the management of environmental risks.
- assess environmental risk management and compliance systems and controls to identify performance trends and define solutions to address gaps and leverage global best practices.

Lead the process to define, identify, report, and recommend corrective actions to the Vale Base Metals executive team for environmental issues affecting the business.
Actively participate in the Base Metals Sustainability Committee and report on issues impacting business and operations performance and strategy.
Serve as project lead and/or key contributor on studies and projects across Base Metals, coordinating work across internal and external stakeholders, that impact the organization's license to operate and improve environmental risk management and performance.
Develop and maintain working relationships with industry association and regulatory representatives as appropriate.
Develop talent pool and succession planning to meet organizational needs, including recruiting, training, career development, and performance evaluation

About You

Education**:

Undergraduate Degree

Skills and Experience:

Over 15 years of relevant experience
Strong Work & Business Management Skills (resource, planning & work prioritization management, systems thinking, results focused, finance & budgeting knowledge, etc.); Operations Experience; Balanced Functional Knowledge in mining, metallurgy, or chemical processes
Change Management skills and experience, capable of building momentum and positive energy for change
Leadership and influencing skills and experience
Extensive experience with Environmental Management programs.
Operations and corporate level experience in progressively more senior Environmental roles in a multisite capacity
