Position Description:

***The Community Support Counsellor - Addiction Specialist participates as a member of the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine Clinic and includes responsibilities related to providing expertise in consultation for patients with concurrent disorders and addictions within all medical and mental health and addictions programs. This position provides support to the interdisciplinary teams in utilizing evidence-based treatment for addictions/concurrent disorders, brief counselling, program evaluation, capacity building, potential community outreach, and demonstrates advanced clinical reasoning skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology preferred or relevant discipline OR twoyear community college diploma in human services or relevant field required
  • Registration with College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario preferred
  • Completion of a certificate program in addictions/concurrent disorders from an accredited educational institution preferred
  • Evidence of ongoing advanced addictions education from an accredited educational institution required
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of individuals experiencing substance induced psychosis required
  • Two (2) years recent related experience working in a mental health setting utilizing an evidence informed concurrent disorder framework required
  • One (1) year specific experience in an addiction treatment or medical setting preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in a communitybased setting with individuals experiencing substance use concerns required
  • Demonstrated experience in family engagement required
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the treatment and relevant best practices of substance use disorder, including the following modalities DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Crisis Intervention, Harm Reduction)
  • Experienced in individual and groupbased counselling
  • Comprehensive knowledge in relevant regional community resources for this target population
  • Completed of TEACH Tobacco Cessation training preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of MS Word and Outlook
  • Demonstrated competence in program evaluation and capacity building
  • Demonstrated competence in conducting the screening, assessments of patients with addiction and concurrent disorders including the identification of risk factors
  • Demonstrated skill in the incorporation of evidence based practice and relevant referrals into addiction/concurrent disorder specific treatment plans
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical support to patients with complex addiction/medical issues transitioning from hospital to community
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and problemsolving skills, with demonstrated flexibility and ability to set own priorities and work with mínimal supervision required
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to function effectively as a productive member of an inter professional team; to remain accountable to other team members and demonstrated adherence to relevant timelines is essential
  • Interest and demonstrated abilities in program planning, development and research preferred
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Privacy and Substitute Decisions Act essential
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality required.
  • Current First Aid & CPR preferred
  • Good work performance and attendance record is essential.
