Company Overview
The Essex Terminal Railway (ETR) is a switching (or short line) railway operating in Windsor, LaSalle and Amherstburg. ETR has been providing rail service to local industries since 1902.


General Job Description
In this role you will be responsible for inspecting and repairing railcars to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Railcar repairs may include welding, replacing, straightening and fabricating and painting components.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Examines railcar components for structural defects and obstructions
  • Operate hand held scanner
  • Turns hand wheel to test brakes and ascertain that they are in operating condition
  • Inspects and tests air hoses for leakage
  • Inspects wheel trucks for dragging equipment
  • Prepares reports on findings
  • Remove and replace couplers, airline gaskets, hoses or other components
  • Paint cars and car components
  • Inspect, repair or replace steel sections
  • Straighten or fabricate, then replace steel parts
  • Operate acetylene torches for cutting and/or shaping metals parts and operate electrical and gas welding equipment
  • Operate forklifts, Scissor Lifts and other shop equipment
  • Working at heights training
  • Working in confined space
  • Operate vehicles, pickup trucks to transport workers
  • Rerail cars and locomotive by using rerailing equipment
  • Tag cars in need of immediate repairs
  • Put up Blue Flags at both ends of a track and lock the switches with private locks
  • Perform other related duties as required

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, college/university preferred
  • Welding certificate is preferred
  • Previous experience in rail car repairs an asset
  • Ability to set priorities, establish and execute a plan of action
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving abstract
  • Must be able to work outside in all kinds of weather
  • Good hearing and vision / Good handeye coordination and mechanical aptitude
  • Pass preemployment medical / Criminal Background Check

Job Types:

$18.57-$23.21 per hour
