    Johnson Controls Inc, through its brands DSC, SurGard, Visonic and Bentel, is a leading developer and supplier of security products in more than 140 countries worldwide.     Our Hardware Development group is responsible for the electrical design of all DSC products, CAD Layout and Components validation and selection. The projects involve: Next generation of new products, feature enhancements for released products, feasibility studies, assisting with technical support issues.

    What you will do:

    Our Junior Hardware Designer will assist Hardware Engineers in day-to-day activities involving designing, developing, modifying and testing of new security products and systems.

    How you will do it:

    This individual will be working as a member of a project team responsible for:

    • Feasibility studies of applicable technologies or circuits
    • Board level design (digital, analog and RF circuits), using schematic and simulation design tools
    • Debugging and design verification testing of boards and systems
    • Working in cross functional teams with other groups within product development (Mechanical, Software, Purchasing, Test Engineering, Manufacturing)
    • Design documentation, collecting test data and creating verification test reports

    Education and Experience Required:

    • 3rd year Electrical or Computer Engineering student
    • Must be available for a minimum 12 months to a maximum of 16 months for the internship starting May month) or September month)
    • Experience with design of digital and/or analog circuits, utilizing acceptable engineering design practices
    • Familiar with schematic capture tool(s)
    • Familiar with RF circuits, PCB layout, VHDL, or simulation tools is an asset
    • Familiar with product approvals procedures and requirements such as Safety, radiated and conducted emissions is an asset
    • Computers, familiarity with and use of test, diagnostic and measuring equipment
    • Visual concentration while using the hardware design tools or lab equipment
    • Occasional work outdoors for short periods of time may be required
    • Some lifting of lab equipment may be necessary

    Specialized Skills:

    • Training provided: Schematic capture tools, lab equipment tools and other design tools as needed
