The Epidemiologist is responsible for providing statistical analysis, managing special epidemiological and other complex planning projects, maintaining local health and population databases, and providing expert advice regarding planning and research activities towards the identification of health system priorities and development of healthcare strategies to promote high quality client outcomes.


Here is what you will be doing:

  • Maintains professionalism demonstrating strict adherence to employer privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Coordinates and conducts epidemiological and other analysis of local health-care system based on provincial and regional data, community input and other sources for the purpose of identifying gaps and establishing priorities.
  • Leads regional surveillance, forecasting, and monitoring activities related to population health and utilization of the health-care system.
  • Extracts health and population data from a variety of local, provincial, and national data sources
  • Performs data analysis of local health system performance indicators in accordance with Ministry of Health and Health Service Provider accountability requirements.
  • Identifies, selects, and uses appropriate analytical approaches that can be used in the development of regional analyses and reports.
  • Participates in and contributes to provincial and inter-OH planning activities.
  • Conducts effective stakeholder consultation related to planning, assesses impact of planning recommendations and decisions, and promotes consensus among stakeholders for action required.
  • Works with OH staff to identify appropriate and priority opportunities for integration and coordination initiatives.
  • Provides advice and input towards the development of health-care system funding plans.
  • Provides group leadership on analytical projects and manages their work and priorities during project assignments.
  • Provides support for report writing as appropriate including preparation of research reports and delivering presentation materials.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of health and population databases or systems for surveillance, investigation, assessment, and reporting.
  • Maintains compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and organizational policies and procedures including but not limited to: safe work; reporting of injuries and illnesses; working internally and externally in a safe manner; participating in related training and development, e.g. WHMIS; maintaining competency related to the organization's Emergency Response Plan participates in planned tests; reporting unsafe or unhealthy working conditions.

Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience- Post-secondary degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, health planning, health administration or relevant field. Master's degree preferred.- Significant analytic experience within a healthcare or public health environment.

Experience with communicable disease surveillance and outbreak reporting is an asset. Experience using business intelligence tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Excel Tableau, or MicroStrategy. Proven skill and success in leading large, complex planning projects and experience in project management methodology.- In-depth understanding of the Ontario and local community health-care systems as well as related stakeholders, programs and issues.- Excellent written communications skills to prepare, report and analyze data in support of effective decision-making and priority setting.- Excellent oral communication skills to explain complex technical information to superiors, colleagues and stakeholders.


Other- Knowledge of OH business strategies, objectives, priorities and programs, and related technology priorities, plans, and requirements- Knowledge of the evolving role of the East region, the issues and priorities within the healthcare sector and how these impact information technology requirements.
