VSCAN presents an exciting opportunity to become a valued member of our Veterinary Technician team, delivering cutting-edge Neurology, Anesthesia, and Diagnostic Services tailored to meet the diverse needs of our patients.

As a VSCAN Veterinary Technician in collaboration with our veterinarians and support team, you will ensure the best care and comfort for our patients.

Serving as the primary caregivers for all hospitalized pets, you'll play a vital role in maintaining their well-being and safety throughout their stay while demonstrating respect, compassion, integrity, confidence, collaboration, and innovation.

Some General Responsibilities include:

Perform morning opening duties and initial intake appointments for patients.
Administer IV catheters, fluid therapy, and prepare patient medications following VSCAN protocols.
Collaborate with Anesthesiologist to develop anesthesia plans and protocols.
Take vital signs, review charts, and provide or coordinate necessary treatments for inpatients.
Monitor medical and postop cases, providing treatment as needed, including incision care and postoperative procedures.
Prepare for surgeries, including equipment setup and ensuring anesthesia machines are operational.
Assist during and postsurgery, including anesthesia, postop injections, and cleanup.
Conduct radiographs and handle bloodwork, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid analysis.
Update patient documentation, including sheets for admissions, ICU, treatments, and anesthesia.
Manage patient discharges in coordination with DVMs, ensuring patient readiness and clear gohome instructions.
Work with Veterinary Assistants to ensure patients are ready for discharge, perform gohome appointments, and demonstrate exercises.
Provide comprehensive patient care, including feeding, walking, and maintaining cleanliness.
Perform housekeeping duties, stock inhouse supplies, and complete Technician duties lists.

Skills and Abilities

Completion of an accredited Veterinary Technician program
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician
Exceptional client service skills; with proficient written and verbal skills
Ability to maintain composure in emergency and stressful situations
Excellent interpersonal, problemsolving, and collaborative team player
Initiativetaking, with the capacity to work independently and make sound decisions
Demonstrate accountability; dependability; and strong judgement
Strong organizational and time management skills
Able to multitask while providing a consistently high level of patient care and support to others
Uphold professionalism and maintain confidentiality

Working Conditions

General working conditions can include standing or crouching for extended periods of time
Able to stand for lengthy periods during surgical or digital imaging procedures
May be required to lift up to 15 kg alone and support up to 50 kg with assistance
Team members may be exposed to the following: radiation, biohazardous substances, chemical hazards, potentially fractious patients, emotionally stressful situations, unpleasant odors, bites and/or scratches from patients, and loud noises
