The opportunity:

UM is looking for a Graduate Program Advisor.

This position will be responsible for advising prospective students on admission requirements for the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Department, communicate and handle enquiries, and provides advice regarding program regulations.

The Graduate Program Advisor will also be responsible for reviewing graduate program information on the department's website as well as implementing changes in policies and procedures.


The qualifications and experience we're looking for:

  • Completion of a formal training program in a related discipline from a recognized institute required.
  • At least four years of directly related office experience and student advising is required.
  • Experience working with students and the public preferred.
  • Experience with travel booking, reimbursements and university travel policies and procedures preferred.
  • Experience working with University graduate policy and procedures preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience providing support to international students.
  • Experience with university ordering and payment processes preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) suite is required.
  • Effective time management, decision making, problem solving, and organizational skills are required.
  • Must be selfmotivated in order to complete tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to complete tasks with attention to detail required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality following FIPPA & PHIA is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
  • Ability to exercise initiative required.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, students and the public in a professional and friendly manner is required.
  • Ability to multitask in a busy office environment is required.
  • Ability to work independently to complete administrative tasks required.
  • Ability to set priorities and work effectively under pressure and constraints with a high degree of accuracy required.
  • High level of cultural awareness and sensitivity required.
  • Experience using Aurora Student, Banner, Jump, Concur, EPIC, Drupal is preferred.
  • Experience using Radius, AppReview is preferred.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
