    DS Consultants Ltd. (DS) is a consulting engineering firm which specializes in geotechnical, environmental, hydrogeology, materials inspection and testing. Our head office is located in Vaughan with branch offices located in Barrie, Hamilton, and Cambridge. Our team currently consists of more than 130 highly qualified and experienced engineers, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists, technologists and support staff.

    DS is currently seeking Geotechnical Field Technician(s) to join our team in the Cambridge office.     Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical services in a field and laboratory environment
    • Duties can include but not limited to site inspections, material testing (soil, asphalt, concrete) using a nuclear gauge, material sampling, data collection and general geotechnical work supervision
    • Providing technical assistance in materials related projects and tasks, including carrying out field and laboratory testing of various materials on construction sites, in-situ density testing and testing of concrete and asphalt materials
    • Ability to lift up and carry up to 50 lbs
    • Summarizing and analyzing findings from investigations and lab testing for report writing
    • Ensuring workplace health and safety practices are followed at all times
    • Work with and provide support to other members of the field technician group in assisting with other field and office activities as required

    Qualifications:

    • Civil Engineering diploma, preferably with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering
    • CCIL Certifications in asphalt and concrete is an asset
    • 1-2 years field experience of soil and asphalt compaction, concrete testing, subgrade evaluation
    • Previous experience working as a geotechnical technician preferred
    • Knowledge of drilling procedures is an asset
    • Must own vehicle with appropriate insurance and hold a valid (G-Level) Ontario Driver's License
    • Must be mobile, punctual and willing to work on a combination of field, lab and office work, as travel is required
    • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, proactively able to respond to time-sensitive issues
    • Excellent computer skills, proficiency with common industry software is required
    • Flexible, well organized, interested in technical and personal advancement, able to carry out assignments with minimal supervision
    • Excellent interpersonal skill, must communicate effectively with team members and clients, strong report writing skills and verbal communication in English are essential

    Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Seasonal

    Pay: $18.50-$21.00 per hour
