Position Description
We are looking for a Structural Steel Project Coordinator at ArkTon Steel Inc.

We are a Canadian owned and operated company located in Crossfield, Alberta specializing in pre-engineered building systems and structural component manufacturing.

Project Coordinator Responsibilities Include:


  • Prepare and submit construction project budgets estimates.
  • Select trade subcontractors and coordinate activities.
  • Hiring of subcontractors and managing their work progress and activities.
  • Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress.
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements.
  • Review 3D Model Designs based on project requirements.
  • Review and analyze drawings/sketches to determine appropriate connections and input into correlating system.
  • Knowledge of CADD and other computer software systems.
  • Create and manage project budgets.
  • Organize the purchase of building materials and related items.
  • Analysis of project information and data.
  • Plan, organize, manage, and evaluate daily operations.
  • Prepare reports for senior management.
  • Interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities.
  • Collaborate with Ownership, Project Managers and Detailers assigned to various divisions of the project to ensure specific details are managed accordingly to help avoid conflict and inaccuracies within the fabrication and erection stages.
  • Perform Detailing and Estimator duties when required.
  • Respond to any change requests from the client.
  • Work with the Project Manager and production team in troubleshooting any client issues.
  • Thoroughly review assembly and erection drawings for accuracy of the indicating dimensions, tolerances, fastening and joining requirements.
  • Project correspondence and maintenance.
  • Assist with any challenges or questions in the fabrication and erection stages.
  • Attend project meetings with engineers, architects and general contractors when required.
  • Review contract drawings and specifications to identify any unusual or unique aspects.
  • Work with Project Managers and Detailing Managers to best maintain project schedules using the allotted resources.
  • Inform Project Managers of changes that may result in extra scope, extra costs, or extra time required for the project.
  • Review drawings to identify any detailing that does not adhere to company or project standards and communicate to other Detailers working on the project.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Evaluate projects for constructability and valueengineer cost savings.
  • Visit project worksites, clarify scope of work, and prepare cost estimates and proposals.
  • Estimating and managing commercial and institutional building construction projects.
  • Develop and implement strategies to selfperform and to outsource the various aspects of a project to achieve the projects objectives of price, schedule, and quality.
  • Develop detailed means and methods for estimates.
  • Outsourcing, analyzing and competitively purchasing subcontractor services and material to assure that all project goals are being addressed.
  • Reviewing proposed designs for constructability and valueengineering costs.
  • Assist in contract negotiations.
  • Establish, monitor, communicate and maintain project schedules utilizing contemporary scheduling software.
  • Coordinate, conduct and document various project meetings.
  • Filing project records and documents.
  • Manage project costs to ensure budgets are being maintained.
  • Managing change orders.
  • Acquiring building permits.
  • Managing submittals and other necessary project documents.
  • Physically inspecting projects to monitor progress and compliance with project standards.
