Position Summary:


Reporting to the Director, Airport Planning and Development, this position is responsible for developing and implementing technology solutions to enable seamless execution of GTAA's Transformative Capital Plan program portfolio.

As a member of the Information Technology management team, the role will collaborate with IT team peers, business units, managers and directors, VPs, consulting teams and industry leaders, to identify, recommend and develop technology strategies, goals and objectives to support utility and building management automation, customer experience, automation of passenger and baggage processing, government agencies, airlines and airport collaboration and commercialization of airport products and services.

The role will create and implement plans that will feed into and drive from CTO strategic airport technology vision. The role will lead portfolio execution to achieve identified objectives and outcomes.


As Associate Director, IT Planning and Development Technology Service, you will:

  • Build foundational elements of TCP technology portfolio and continuously improve and alter to meet technology and business need evolution in sync with evolution of GTAA business plans
  • Guide direct reports in analysis of new opportunities to ensure technology suite(s) meet cross functional organizational needs
  • Plan for and build technology evolution strategy to support major airport development projects and programs, with attention and focus to major automation, OT and IT integration, information, and data sharing solutions
  • Provide expertise and establish foundational policies related to information technology infrastructure required to support evolution of autonomous modes of transport for passengers and baggage at Toronto Pearson airport
  • Guide and lead technology purchasing (and management of delivery process) by overseeing and /or directly contributing RFPs, RFIs, EOIs, Tender Packages
  • Responsible for the discovery and introduction of new technologies and automated solutions and leverage where possible GTAA technology Architecture capabilities
  • Lead delivery of technology solutions & projects within assigned portfolio and ensure seamless execution on scope, time, budget and business benefits
  • Support and oversee project deliverable transition to operations through Operational Readiness Review (ORR) and other project processes
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships between IT and GTAA's business functions, technology providers, airlines, government agencies and other airport clients and partners
  • Accountable to represent IT and the GTAA on both internal and external communication from VP, CIO office and IT senior management team
  • Work with industry technology partners; Establish and maintain partnerships with industry leaders in automation, telecom, cloud computing
  • Act as a change agent, developing relationships with key internal and external partners to generate ideas, build alignment and effectively present and communicate technology based solutions
  • Build, manage, coach and mentor direct reports and contributors including project team members, IT colleagues and peers
  • Coach, mentor and develop individuals and teams to rise to their full potential while providing timely, constructive and consistent feedback and personal development opportunities

To do so, you will bring:


  • Undergraduate/graduate degree in business/technology/engineering or a related discipline with other professional qualifications
  • Professional Engineering, Masters in Engineering, Professional Project Manager, MBA, TOGAF, ITIL operational certification or equivalent experience preferred
  • 10 + years of airport or equivalent industry work experience, including experience in leading teams and projects, design and implementation of complex technology solutions in manufacturing, automation and robotics, oil and gas, aviation, transportation, logistics, telecommunications industry
  • Experience in leading and managing technical teams (individual SMEs and/or technology and solution providers vendors and integrators)
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transport Canada Clearance
