ROLE PURPOSE

This position will be responsible for kitchen management including food prep, staffing, inventory needs as per menu planning and determined budgets.


HOURS - Monday - Friday:


REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports and is accountable to the Bedford Manor Program Manager or their designate
  • Function as a multidisciplinary team member
  • Establish and maintain good interpersonal relations with residents, staff, visitors and volunteers, by displaying tact, courtesy and patience.
  • Respect and maintain the spirit, dignity and individuality of residents and their families.
  • Liaises with the staff and managers of Connective as necessary.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Practice the highest standard of food preparation.
  • Perform all duties in relation to the preparation and distribution of food.
  • Ensure that food is prepared in accordance with dietary requirements of licensing bodies and resident preferences.
  • Assist in menu planning for resident meals, and the planning and preparation of food for special functions, frozen meals, etc.
  • Solicit feedback from residents through quarterly meetings and comment cards.
  • Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness and safety of work areas, storage, coolers, freezers, equipment and work surfaces.
  • Safely and efficiently operate all equipment associated with the duties of the position.
  • Check, receive and restock supplies, and place or check orders as required.
  • Maintain food rotation in storage to minimize waste.
  • Assist in dishwashing, cleaning, and in the dining room as required.
  • Report any situations that may be considered unsafe or a health risk.
  • Responsible for program planning and quality improvement exercises including audits in both food and service.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Function independently, while remaining a crucial member of the support team
  • Carry out significant amounts of lifting, bending, stooping and stretching.
  • Work within a social model approach
  • Adhere to Connective policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff inservice and continuing education programs and approved workrelated conferences and seminars.
  • Be available to work flexible hours during the daytime, evenings, and weekends based on operational needs and requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited Chef training program
  • Experience to inventory control and food storage procedures
  • Flexibility to prepare nutritious and appealing meals in response to changing preferences of resident.
  • Experience in a restaurant setting or longterm care facility.

  • Criminal Records Checks
  • Food Safe Level 1 &
  • WHMIS
  • Annual Flu Vaccination
  • Complete immunization history
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID1
  • Recent TB skin test results

COMPENSATION:
$24.94 per hour (Wage levelling in effect. Assisted Living wage grids starts at $ HEABC wage top-up = $24.94)
