Description

Responsible for the accounting and financial operations of the corporation, managing the finance team, review of all financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and enhance the accuracy of the company's financial results.


  • Lead, manage and hold the finance team accountable
  • Participate in planning the objectives, methods and resources of short and long range financial operations of the company, monitor and report on overall company financial performance.
  • Direct and coordinate the accounting, budgeting and other financial operations of assigned area. Includes providing administrative and technical supervision to staff personnel.
  • Recommend policies and procedures relating to financial and business practices of the company.
  • Monitor the financial operations of the company or assigned area to ensure compliance with budgets. Oversee the preparation of required Federal and Provincial financial reports as well as financial and related reports to the Corporate Executives.
  • Direct inservice training and development of staff.
  • Functions as management link between staff and corporate accounting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
a.
Financial Planning and Cost Control

  • Spearheading the annual financial planning process for the group of companies
  • Benchmarking company performance to uncover issues in the cost structure
  • Preparing variance analysis to highlight opportunities for cost control
  • Negotiating contracts for goods/ services categorized as administrative expenses
  • Taking responsibility for quality of all deliverables of the Finance function

Reporting

  • Reviewing and presenting monthly financial statements
  • Reviewing and presenting monthly management reports for various stakeholders
  • Board of Directors, executives, shareholders, lenders and branches
  • Ensuring subledgers are reconciled to the GL and financial data in different systems are aligned
  • Coordinating the annual review of the financials by the external accountant
  • Ensuring tax compliance i.e., income tax and provincial GST
  • Reporting to other government authorities

Core Financial Operations

  • Champion of all core accounting procedures & processes to ensure accuracy and controls are working
  • Resident expert on the financial reporting system and help resolve system issues
  • Overseeing treasury operations to optimize debt and cash balances
  • Administering the employee equity purchase program
  • Building a relationship with the banking partner to resolve cash management issues
  • Managing the premium financing loan portfolio
  • Managing credit risk by monitoring receivables and supporting delinquent client resolution process

Coaching and Mentoring the Team

  • Coaching and developing the team to scale with the operations
  • Cross training teammates to ensure business continuity
  • Implementing an accountability structure to create a high performing team

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Publication of monthly shareholder reports by 10th of every month
  • No material errors in financial statements and management reports
  • Significant balance sheet accounts reconciled every quarter
  • Externally reviewed annual financials prepared by Mar 31 of each year
  • Loan losses minimized to under 1% of revenue

CMB TEAM SUPPORT

  • Be familiar with and follow company policies and procedures as established (Employee Handbook, Finance policies and procedures, etc.).
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and company functions.
  • Demonstrate good leadership qualities with a positive attitude and ability to motivate others.

Knowledge & Experience:


  • 10 years' experience in a similar role
  • CPA designation
  • Deep understanding of financial statements
  • Financial modeling skills using advanced excel functions
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to work with senior executives
  • A mature approach to Problem solving by diving deeper and considering broader business implications
  • Experience managing a team and developing people
  • Sense of responsibility in upholding confidentiality and protecting the company assets
