EDGE is an impact entrepreneurship hub and incubator at Sheridan that supports a diverse community of changemakers who are looking to gain skills and launch new ventures.
EDGE serves Sheridan students, faculty, alumni and staff, as well as the general public. EDGE resources include co-working spaces, mentorship, funding and access to an inclusive entrepreneurial community. EDGE acts as a bridge to the broader startup ecosystem and to innovation supports within Sheridan.This is an exciting opportunity to join the EDGE Team. The Manager, Student Engagement actively promotes and facilitates meaningful opportunities for student engagement with EDGE.
Collaborating with the EDGE learning team and campus stakeholders, the Manager, Student Engagement aims to support personal and academic growth, cultivate a sense of belonging, and foster student founders' and aspiring innovators' access to EDGE supports and services.
As a result, students will develop their skills, ideas and ventures while nurturing connections among their peers, mentors, and the local entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Meaningful and intentional engagement at EDGE refers to the purposeful involvement of students in EDGE's activities and learning experiences that are designed to have a positive impact on their development as impact entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, and social changemakers.
The Manager, Student Engagement designs student engagement activities that go beyond participation and focus on creating opportunities for students to deeply connect with themselves, their purpose, and a like-minded community in ways that are enriching and transformative.
The incumbent develops collaborations with academic faculties that create reciprocal learning opportunities for students and other EDGE members and engages directly with students, offering guidance and support to develop their entrepreneurial ideas.
They also build strong relationships and networks internal and external to the college with mentors, advisors and others who can offer student support.
What You'll Be Doing
Designing, developing and managing the delivery of a comprehensive student experience across all three Sheridan campuses that promotes meaningful and intentional engagement.
Designing and delivering engaging and hands-on learning sessions grounded in current entrepreneurship and changemaking theory and practice, and fosters inclusion and belonging among students and the EDGE community.
Providing leadership and direction to the team through optimizing team performance and professional capacity through effective recruiting, project planning, employee development and performance management.
Managing day to day operations of EDGE's student membership supports, enabling the development of impact entrepreneurship skills and the Startup of new ventures.
About You
You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion.
You have sound understanding of project management principles and tools and have the ability to multi-task, prioritize, balance and manage multiple complex and competing demands.
You are a skilled facilitator who is able to create an inclusive and experiential learning environment and is able to support learning by providing hands-on activities and experiences that illustrate new concepts.
You bring an entrepreneurial spirit who is able to contribute both ideas and thoughtful execution to a growing organization.
4-year bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences, Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Business or a related field (required)
Minimum of 7 years practical experience and expertise in social entrepreneurship, learning program development or entrepreneurship support
Examples may include:
teaching entrepreneurship/social impact studies, managing learning activities for an entrepreneurship service provider, design and delivery of innovative learning programs within a post-secondary environment, leading a social venture, consulting to start-ups and social enterprises (Equivalency will be considered)
Familiarity with, and ideally experience within, a post-secondary learning context.
Experience managing teams of students, volunteers and external resources/vendors
Agile, flexible, comfortable working collaboratively in an entrepreneurial environment and has experienced entrepreneurial challenges common to social venture founders - building a team, raising funds, enhancing and measu
