This is not your typical Account Management position.

Our account managers are the bridge between academia and all sectors of the economy, working creatively to identify and pursue solutions to a wide range of strategic challenges on behalf of our partners.

Their broad mandate is to drive private-sector R&D initiatives through knowledge transfer between post-secondary institutions and industry.

Using Mitacs network, they can identify the right expertise to address various sector-specific business challenges and help businesses form new strategic partnerships.

***Reporting to the Director of Major Accounts (responsible for Mitacs national Major/Strategic Accounts and account management team), as well as working closely with the national Strategic Partnerships team, this position will be strategically placed to support all Mitacs programs, and with particular emphasis on the Mitacs Accelerate program.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders including industry partners, industry organizations, academic researchers and Mitacs program funders (governmental agencies).
  • Interact with companies for the purpose of establishing industry/academia collaboration for advanced research and innovation projects
  • Create and maintain a network of partners in the private and public sectors
  • Constantly formulate new strategic partnerships for Mitacs and provide business development support to all Mitacs programs
  • Act as lead strategist for business development related activities in industrial sectors of focus. Establish expectations and timelines for deliverables, assess progress and measure the success of activities
  • Work with companies to put in place an innovation roadmap to support their applied research needs with academic institution across Canada

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Demonstrated abilities to develop relationships with industry, government, and the academic sectors
  • Past experience networking with senior stakeholders
  • An understanding of international partnerships
  • Strong analytical, communications, and interpersonal skills
  • A graduate degree is strongly preferred
  • Possess a strong network within the province encompassing industry, academia, and government
  • A selfstarter who is comfortable working in a team setting.
  • Have 5 to 7 years of relevant account management experience
  • Maintain a strong industrial network within the Southwestern Ontario region
  • Are familiar with Advanced Manufacturing sector, in particular automotive, electric vehicles (EVs) and batteries industries
  • Are knowledgeable of support opportunities to companies and academic faculty undertaking research
