JOB SUMMARY:


Under the supervision of the Mental Health Lead, the incumbent supports the organization towards achieving its wellness goals through the building of resources, strategies and simple, everyday classroom practices accessible to educators to create and maintain a mentally healthy classroom.

A knowledgeable resource, the role helps implement social emotional learning and student well-being in the classroom by communicating available school-based mental health interventions, that can be delivered universally or in targeted ways by school staff that contribute to the development of a safe learning environment.

The incumbent will contribute to the development and delivery of mental health programming to staff, students, and parents/caregivers to promote the development and reinforcement of social-emotional skills.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education & Experience:


  • Minimum 2year college diploma in children's mental health, community and social services, or a related field.
  • Current, unrestricted registration with a professional college is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with children and youth and/or in school systems is considered an asset.
  • Experience with program/training development and facilitation is considered an asset

Skills Required:


  • Ability to implement and support programming directly related to addressing and managing social emotional learning (SEL) and wellness needs in children and youth.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to support program delivery to increase educator understanding of connections between SEL and wellness and behaviour challenges.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of best practices in the areas of social emotional learning and student mental health.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to assess, prioritize and determine appropriate next steps, including troubleshooting.
  • Ability to effectively support multiple stakeholders (e.g. Principals, teachers, students, EA's, system staff) with a focus on collaboration and service excellence
  • Strong interpersonal skills including active listening, dependability and teamwork.
  • Ability to attend work at multiple worksites.
  • Ability to prepare/develop and deliver professional presentations to large numbers of people.
  • Ability to prepare/develop and facilitate workshops for students and parents/caregivers to assist in the development of socialemotional skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a confidentiality, diplomacy, and discretion is essential

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • In consultation with the Mental Health Lead, acts as a lead in supporting schools to establish everyday mentally healthy classroom practices (i.e. School Mental Health Ontario) by researching and assembling implementationready resources to support educators (e.g. classroom teachers) that help students to feel that they are welcome, included and belong (resources which may include videos and print or readytoprint resources for ease of access by classroom teachers).
  • Builds capacity and facilitates the extension of SEL and wellness needs into everyday mentally healthy classroom practices through the development of materials (i.e. populates newsletters, social media platforms) from approved resources (ie. School Mental Health Ontario).
  • Collaborates on a regular basis with multidisciplinary staff in the school on specific programming school readiness supports with a focus on social emotional learning, providing instruction to classroom staff to support student wellness.
  • Coordinates and organizes various supports most suited to the school setting for social emotional learning and wellness tools and resources that are evidencebased and support the implementation of mental health literacy programs by linking relevant and targeted mental health and wellness resources to curriculum documents for both small and large groups school settings.
  • May deliver program/training to schoolbased staff through a range of training delivery modalities and mediums (i.e. YouTube videos) in an inventive way, using current social media platforms to deliver information and increase school capacity in social, emotional learning.
  • May contribute to the development and facilitation of workshops for students and parents/caregivers to assist in the development of socialemotional skills.
