Summary:


Within the context of a patient, client and family centred model of care and, in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.


Reporting to the Executive Director, Professional Practice, Nursing and Clinical Informatics, the Director, Nursing and Interprofessional Practice provides strategic leadership and expert advice on Nursing professional practice matters and plays an integral role in supporting the delivery of quality practice environments.

The Director leads and supports the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing monitoring of strategic resource planning in order to achieve clinical and professional growth while optimizing professional practice priorities, advanced practice, quality practice environments, and fostering sustainability in order to deliver on organizational initiatives.

The Director advances Nursing workforce and organizational initiatives such as the Model of care framework and person and family-centred care.

Provides leadership and expert advice on scope of practice, skill mix, and care delivery approaches through inter-professional collaborative practice.


The Director is also accountable for the leadership, implementation, and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives related to Nursing professional practice and inter-professional practice (regulated and unregulated).

Leads the development, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing monitoring and championing of operational and/or professional clinical standards, procedures, guidelines and policies for the Nursing workforce.

Develops and sustains discipline specific and inter-professional professional practice communities across the organization. Promotes and builds linkages, alliances and collaborative relations with internal and external contacts and partners. Represents PHC on appropriate committees and advisory groups (e.g. health authority, provincial, ministry meetings).


Qualifications / Skills and Education:
Education, Training and Experience


A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in Nursing plus seven (7) to ten (10) year's recent, related experience in a senior management or leadership position within a large, academic, health care environment responsible for professional practice, education and research.

Current practicing registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of interprofessional practice and education and models of care delivery across a variety of disciplines and settings.
  • Strong program planning and development skills including integration of evidencebased best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, set and accomplish objectives and goals in a complex, fastpaced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically analyze industry and professional literature.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and advance multiple initiatives in parallel. Includes ability to lead projects directly as well as to provide oversight to direct reports for projects they are managing.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize creativity and innovation to develop corporate strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop quality assessment systems/tools.
  • Demonstrated innovative leadership skills, analytical and problemsolving skills and a proven ability to foster a collaborative team approach to decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain partnerships locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
  • Ability to foster collaboration and effective working relationships with interested parties/partners that promote cooperative goals and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
