Book Nook Coordinator

Temporary Part-Time

Supervisor Community Support & Prevention

***: The Book Nook provides good quality, donated children's books to children in all Macaulay programs. The Book Nook Coordinator is responsible for picking up boxes of books at the Children's Book Bank, bringing boxes of books to head office (using a cart and the elevator), counting, sorting, stickering and keeping the books attractively displayed in the Book Nook at head office, and coordinating a group of volunteers to assist.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Book Nook Planning and Organization

  • Coordinate with Children's book bank programmer for book pick up
  • Ensure that books are sorted, stickered and reviewed for condition and quality
  • Plan and oversee Book Nook volunteer days
  • Coordinate and schedule a small group of volunteers to sort, sticker and review books
  • Transport books from Children's Book Warehouse to main office
  • Ensure that the main office book display area is attractively maintained, and the book storage area is kept organized
  • Maintain detailed list of book requests from multiple departments/programs at agency
  • Communicate with Children's Book Bank coordinator as needed
  • Maintain statistics as required

Book Nook Volunteer Days
- set up the room for Book Nook volunteer book processing
- welcome, train, and support volunteers, giving encouragement and feedback
- foster a supportive environment reflective of the diversity of the community
- facilitate opportunities for mutual support and information sharing among volunteers
- adopt group and individual strategies to promote inclusion
- provide additional supports and accessibility for volunteers with special needs
- engage respectfully and responsively with Book Nook volunteers


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must be able to safely lift heavy boxes of books (approx lbs)
  • Familiarity with children's books
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong understanding of principles of inclusion and diversity
  • Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize
  • Good knowledge of community services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language a definite asset
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police check required.
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License and access to a vehicle required.

HOURS:


  • 21 hours per month
- have some scheduling flexibility (available on 2 different week days, as scheduled days could vary)

  • Be available from 9:00am to 5:00 pm on one of those days
  • Schedule and attend two additional Book Nook times per month at head office

SALARY:
Book Nook Coordinator Hourly Rate ($20.25/hr)
