Autism Ontario is a charitable organization with a history of over 49 years representing the thousands of people on the autism spectrum and their families across Ontario.

Made up of knowledgeable parents, professionals, and autistic self-advocates who can speak to the key issues that impact autistic individuals and their families, Autism Ontario is the province's leading source of information and referral on autism, and one of the largest collective voices representing the autism community.

Members are connected through a volunteer network of seven regions throughout the Province of Ontario.

Our mission is to create a supportive and inclusive Ontario for autism, and we value collaboration, respect, accountability and being evidence informed.


  • Successful applicants will be required to show proof of full vaccination or a documented medical exemption upon hire. This is a 12month contract position with possibility of extension.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reporting to the Director of Training and Education Manager of Communications and Resource Development will be responsible for executing a strategic communications plan to elevate communications related to advocacy initiatives, knowledge development and translation, education across the organization and within the framework of Autism Ontario's mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.
  • A thought leader, attuned to the needs of the autism community in Ontario; able to identify and create solutionfocused opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of human rights issues.
  • Experience in policy development preferred.
  • Superior written, spoken, and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an inclusive communication style
  • Welldeveloped experience and capacity to speak knowledgeably and persuasively as an Autism Ontario spokesperson with media or provincial leaders at a moment's notice about a range of autismrelated topics in Ontario.
  • Selfdirected, proactive project manager; able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Understand fluid priorities and respond well under pressure and to frequent work interruptions while meeting deadlines.
  • Relationship focused; listens to understand; enables others to tell their stories safely and effectively in a variety of contexts/mediums.
  • Committed to inclusive, evidenceinformed practices and views at every level of the organization and can articulate these views with excellence.

_ Communications Management_

  • In collaboration with the Director of Training and Education, implement Autism Ontario's education and communications strategy and initiatives.
  • Work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to maximize Autism Ontario's regional, provincial, and national engagement.
  • Supervise the work of Communications staff within a collaborative management framework across the organization.
  • Support the senior management team's communication needs across the organization.
  • Support the development of communications related to funding priorities.
  • Demonstrate leadership in building a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
  • Lead content strategy development, planning and delivery across channels; oversee the coordination and alignment of content across the organization, working with content creators and other stakeholders.
  • Manage communications and contribute to the production of various projects and content, including the Annual Report, Autism Matters magazine, external newsletters, autismrelated educational materials and supports, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Evolve the capacity, accessibility, and relevance of Autism Ontario's website according to changing organizational needs.
  • Enhance digital communication channels, including the website, ecommunications, and social media platforms.
  • Write critical resources such as position statements, articles, and media releases.
  • Maintain and ensure adherence to best practices related to Autism Ontario's brand standards and key messages.

_ Media Monitoring/Reputation Management_

  • Oversee the monitoring and management of media and news related to autism and Autism Ontario on social, online, and print media, including metrics tracking and reporting.
  • Proactively identify and inform senior management team of any news and/or issues likely to arise from the public, media, or key stakeholders that may elicit media coverage and require response.
  • Identify and assess opportunities to proactively promote Autism Ontario through media.
  • Work with senior management team and other Autism Ontario authorized media spokespersons who to capitalize on emerging opportunities to position Autism Ontario as a thought leader in the autism community and promote the organization's advocacy, programs, services, supports, and fundraising efforts.
  • Oversee the management of media lists and media monitoring data and analytics using Cision.

_ Resource Development & Education_

  • Create and lead processes to develop
